The private sector in Nicaragua is opposed to the bill which intends to regulate the prices of 8 of the 53 products in the basic food basket.
The bill introduced in the Assembly intends to implement measures similar to those applied in Panama since July by the Varela administration, which have distorted the production and marketing of the products it covers, according to entrepreneurs from that country.
In August the CPI rose 0.32%, with the divisions of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Restaurants and Hotels, Communications being the fastest growing.
Inflation in the last twelve months up to August was less than that recorded in July 2014, of 6.94%.
March's Monthly inflation stood at -0.01 percent (0.13% in December 2013), mainly determined by price declines in the divisions of food and non-alcoholic drinks; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; and communications, which in total contributed to -0.260 percentage points to the observed variation. It worth nothing that this decrease was partially offset by price increases in the divisions of transport and restaurants and hotels.
The result was determined by the behavior of prices in the divisions of food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing, water, electricity and others.

The Central Bank of Nicaragua informed the Nicaraguan people that the national inflation accumulated to December 2013 was 5.54% (6.62% in December 2012).
The proportion of the population that claims to have more purchasing power increased by 8% compared to last year.
According to the latest survey conducted by the Nicaraguan Foundation for Economic and Social Development (Funides), 36% of households considered that their purchasing power has improved, while last year only 28% of households saw their capacity to buy had improved.
The General Level of the Consumer Price Index in September had a variation of 0.11 % , while in the same period of 2012 it was 0.66 %.
I. National Inflation
September's Monthly inflation closed at 0.11 % (0.66 % in the same period 2012). The increase in prices in the divisions of housing, water , electricity and gas, restaurants and hotels, miscellaneous goods and services fueled the inflationary result for the month. In cumulative terms, domestic inflation stood at 4.11% (3.39 % in September 2012), affected by the behavior of prices in the divisions of food and non -alcoholic beverages, housing, water, electricity and gas, and restaurants and hotels, which together contributed 61 % of the accumulated results (2.50 %).
