If the quarantine and mobility restriction measures are extended by two months, it is predicted that by the end of the year the annualized demand for car rental services in Central America will have fallen by 30%.
The "Information System for the Impact Analysis of Covid-19 on Business", prepared by the Trade Intelligence Unit of CentralAmericaData, measures the impact that the crisis will have on companies according to their sector or economic activity, considering different scenarios for the coming months.

During 2017, there were 361,000 microenterprises operating from households in the country, 14% less than those reported in 2017.
The National Household Microenterprise Survey (Enameh) 2018 details that this type of companies generated 600,444 jobs in 2018, including the owner of the activity. In 2017, the employment generated was estimated at 768,258 people, which implies that there was also a negative variation in the capacity to create employment (-21.8%).
In 2018, nearly 13,000 new jobs were generated in Costa Rica because of investment in 48 new projects in the service, manufacturing and other productive sectors.
The Costa Rican Coalition of Development Initiatives (CINDE) reported that because of new companies arrived in the country together with investments made by companies already installed, 12,961 new jobs were generated in the sectors of services, digital technologies, life sciences, advanced manufacturing and light manufacturing.
In 2017, microenterprises in Costa Rican households generated 768 thousand jobs, and increased their activity by almost 13% compared to 2015.
According to the "National Survey of Household Microenterprises 2017", in "...household microenterprises, service activities prevail, such as food services, beauty treatments, transportation, gardening, "chambas" (odd jobs), among others (42.2%), followed by retail sales, at home and on the street (22.6%), then follows industry, with clothing, bakery, construction and others (20.9% ), and finally agricultural micro-enterprises that cultivate coffee, bananas, beans, livestock, artisanal fisheries, among others (14.3%)."
Amazon has opened a new service center in San José, from where it will provide support to small and medium companies who sell their products on the platform.
In 2009, Amazon started its Seller Support operations in Costa Rica with only 30 employees. Today, its new site - El Tobogán Corporate Center - now houses 900 employees.The company has invested close to $10 million dollars in its new building in San Jose.
In 2016 the Latin American forum that brings together over 500 companies from the service industry will be held in San Jose.

A growing segment of the population is starting to gain weight as a group of consumers of increasingly specialized high-cost services.
In Costa Rica the evolution of the population pyramid is starting to resemble that of developed countries, and shows a sustained increase in inhabitants in the higher age range, a process which is expected to take the number of old age people in 2050 to more than one million.
Product marketing companies are paying the highest average monthly salary, of $2,234, followed by those in the technology and communications sector, with $2,172, and thirdly, service companies, with $2,008.
A study by Talent Partner carried out for La Nacion indicates that in general "... a basic operator makes $715, while someone in a management position earns $5,800, as an average median of the amounts processed." In the case of a professional or analyst, the salary is $1,600, while for intermediate supervisors it is $2,400.
There has been an increase and there are now 122 international companies which have invested in the operation of 140 shared services in different categories.
Currently the export of computer services, management and other business functions make up 5.8% of Costa Rica's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The Costa Rican government will try a second time to renegotiate the terms of the free trade agreement with Canada to include services in the list of sectors with preferences.
The FTA was signed 12 years ago, therefore the government of Costa Rica considers it necessary to revise and update it with the idea of emulating the models of recent agreements made with Europe and other countries.
