The Panamanian government is preparing the tender documents for the expansion of the Juan Díaz river channel in the district of Panama, with an estimated investment of about $8 million.
Officials from the Panama City Mayor's office said that for the extension work to be done during 2018, another $42 million will be required.

The mayor of Tegucigalpa is prepares the tender specifications for the construction of diversion channels and closure of water courses in the capital.
The tender for the project, which totals $2.2 million, is scheduled for November 5 and includes the repair of 50 meters from the current system and the construction of a new channel to prevent flooding.
Work on the Lempa River Bank could start next week and be ready in late May.
The works are being done to repair 30 meters of the river bank which gave way last year due to heavy rains, and some additional 20 meters.
Saul Avelar, chairman of the MAG's infrastructure division, told La Prensa Gráfica: "This embankment has allowed the inhabitants of the Bajo Lempa area to know when they have to evacuate the zone to avoid the loss of human life, even though material losses sometimes cannot be avoided."
