The operator of Puerto Caldera in Costa Rica, has hired a French-Colombian consortium for the construction of a multipurpose port in the Gulf of Uraba, adjacent to the border with Panama, with an investment of $580 million.
PIO SAS, a holding company dedicated among other sectors to the development, implementation and management of services for port infrastructure and logistics, has announced that the consortium Sapeim from France and Termotecnica Coindustrial S.A. from Colombia, is the preferred contractor for the stage of Engineering, Procurement, and construction (EPC) of Puerto Antioquia, which will be the closest Colombian port to the Panama canal and the closest to Medellin and Bogota.
The ACP has approved the documents to tender in ten days a concession to one of the prequalified companies; PSA International Ltd, Terminal Link, Terminal Investments Limited and APM Terminals.

The Board of Directors of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) approved the request for proposal documents and authorized the admininstrators to continue with the approval process, prior to tendering the concession of the Port of Corozal with the shortlisted companies.
It is not only the port of Corozal which needs immediate promotion, there is also an urgent need to keep building port infrastructure in order to take advantage of the Canal expansion.

Now May 28th is the "confirmed" date for the submission of bids in the tender for the Central American Port of La Union.
According to the Executive Port Commission (CEPA), resolutions have been given to 63 queries put forward by four companies which have pre-qualified to participate in the tender, and because of this there will be no further changes to the date for receiving bids.
Although it seems hard to believe, the Autonomous Port Executive Committee of El Salvador has, for a fifth time, postponed the date for submitting bids in the tender for the concession of the port.

The fifth postponement of the date for submission of bids in the tender for the concession of Puerto La Union, El Salvador, raises doubts about the actual feasibility of this ambitious project by the Executive Port Commission (CEPA).
For the fourth time since the project was announced, the Autonomous Executive Port Commission has extended the deadline for submission of tenders for the dredging of the harbor, this time to April 14.
With this new change and there are now four months of arrears since the date originally chosen for bids, which was December 2, 2014. The new date is now April 14, and the authorities of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA) are expected that this will be the last time this process is lengthened.
For the second time since the tender for the concession of the port resumed, the Executive Port Commission of El Salvador has deferred the date for receipt of bids, this time until March 10th.

At the request of enterprises the deadline for submission and opening of bids for the concession of the Puerto de La Union Central America has been extended.
Companies interested in the concession are not yet clear how the dredging of the access channel to the port will be financed and what impact will have the cost on the profitability of the project.
According to authorities at the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), the cost of dredging must be assumed by the government of El Salvador, through them. However, the government has not included this project in its budget.
An announcement has been made that the Autonomous Executive Port Commission will extend the consultation period for pre qualified companies until January 23, 2015 and the receipt of bids until December 23rd.
The concession of the "white elephant" project in El Salvador is still behind schedule. As before, when it was put back until October, the Autonomous Port Executive Committee has confirmed that, at the request of the pre qualified companies, the deadline for consultations and for receipt of bids for the concession of the port will be extended.
Six international companies have submitted proposals for the work convened by the Autonomous Executive Port Commission of El Salvador.
The first stage of prequalification began on September 4 and the companies which took part were: Jan De Nul, Baggerbedrijf De Boer Holding, Dredging International, Boskalis International, Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors and Rohde Nielsen.
Only two of the four companies pre-qualified so far by the Autonomous Executive Port Commission have requested the tender documentation to bid for works at the port.
Of the four companies invited to participate in the tender for the construction of Puerto La Union, two are European, one Chilean and one Filipino. Although the period to collect documents began on September 4, so far only two have applied for them.
The construction and operation for 20 years of a container port in Isla Margarita, in Panama, is governed by a detailed concession agreement.
"... The ambitious port project will have three docks and will be located in an exclusive area of Colon, where it will compete with the terminals currently in operation in the Atlantic: Cristobal, Colon Container Terminal and Manzanillo International Terminal. "
The plan is to improve access to the port, equipment and facilities for the movement of loads, and increase the depths of the three piers.
The Autonomous Executive Port Commission of El Salvador (CEPA) will develop a renovation plan for the port of Acajutla (Sonsonate) with $8.1 million of its own funds and $22 million from external sources.The port renovation plan was approved in July by the board.
In January 2013 the United Nations Program for Development will launch tenders for 78 projects on ports and airports in El Salvador.
The President of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA) Alberto Arene and the Resident Coordinator of the UN System in El Salvador and Resident Representative of the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP) Roberto Valent, signed this Wednesday 31 October a Project Document entitled "Modernization Program and Strategic Asset Management of CEPA", which aims to contribute to the transformation of CEPA and its businesses and to help it utilise opportunities provided by technology and the business models for infrastructure, transport and logistics of the XXI Century.
