In Honduras, the design, construction and supervision of several irrigation systems in different areas of the country are being tendered.
Honduras Government Purchase SAG-UAP-PDABR-BCIE-2101-LPI-1-01-2019:
"The project is aimed at benefiting the poorest farmers in the main horticultural areas of Olancho, Francisco Morazán, La Paz, and the west of the country.
Two irrigation system construction projects are being prepared in different municipalities in the departments of Yoro, La Paz, Intibucá, Lempira, Atlántida, Cortés and Santa Bárbara.
The projects that will be executed are the Programa de Desarrollo Agrícola Bajo Riego (PDABR), and the Project of Competitiveness and Sustainable Development of the South Western Border Corridor (PRO-LENCA), whose investments will be $25.3 million and $27.8 million respectively..
Through an agreement with the Indian company Apollo International Limited an irrigation project will be developed in the Jamastrán Valley, department of El Paraíso.
A statement from the government of Hondurasexplains that the agreement provides for the construction of 6 drip irrigation modulesusing surface water of the rivers Hato, San Antonio and San Francisco, on which a further 300 dripirrigation systems will be built in small five hectare modules.
Resources have been allocated for the construction of water reservoirs, installation of drip irrigation and technical assistance for the Water Harvest Project.

Tegucigalpa, February 01, 2016.- As part of the actions taken by the Government of the Republic to mitigate the impacts of climate change in the Dry Corridor, Honduras Strategic Investment (INVEST-Honduras) has signed a trust agreement (L 400 million) in FICOHSA Bank for the implementation of the Water Harvest project.
Four Indian companies have submitted bids to build an irrigation system in the valley of Jamastrán, with funding from the Export Import Bank of India.

Tegucigalpa. In order to proceed with the implementation of the irrigation project in the Valley of Jamastrán, department of El Paraíso the authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture today opened the tender to several bidders in order to find which company is offering the best deal.
The agricultural chambers in the region are preparing law proposals to be presented in the Central American countries to remove the restrictions on growing GM foods.
Representatives from FECAGRO said the use of agricultural biotechnology allows for improved technology that enables high productivity seeds, reduces agrochemical use, creates more drought-resistant crops that can also be irrigated with salt water and are completely safe for human consumption.
Using a loan from the Italian government the plan is to expand the Valle de Nacaome hydroelectric irrigation project, in the south of the country.

The governments of Honduras and Italy signed a loan agreement today for 31.5 million euros for the construction of the Nacaome Valley Hydroelectric Irrigation, Project which will contribute to the development of the southern zone.
The National Program for Sustainable Rural and Urban Development is putting out to tender the installation and commissioning of 29 sets of drip irrigation and 20 micro-irrigation systems.
Honduras Government Purchase LPN-002-014-HO-BIENES:
"TURNKEY PROJECT FOR INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING OF 29 DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEMS: NINE IRRIGATION SYSTEMS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF 72 HECTARES AND 20 MICROIRRIGATION WATER SYSTEMS FOR 2,500 M2 OF LAND MAKING A TOTAL OF 7 HECTARES, IN THE MUNICIPALITIES OF JUTECALPA AND CATACAMAS IN THE DEPARTMENT OLANCHO. "
The National Sustainable Development Program will allocate the resources to irrigation systems, business plans and food security.
Mario Pineda, Director of Pronaders, said the departments of Olancho, El Paraiso, Colon and Gracias a Dios will receive $ 5.3 million for business plans.
Pineda added that the remaining resources will be used for irrigation, food security and maintenance works for rural roads.
The funds will be used in to build a hydroelectric power plant, called “José Cecilio del Valle”, and to develop irrigation projects in the area.
Mauro Marazoma, Italian spokesperson in Honduras, remarked that they are now organizing the project, to communicate it to local communities and government entities.
“Victor Flores, mayor of the region of Nacaome, explained that Italy is proposing the creation of a Basins Committee as a required condition to invest the 26 million Euros”, reported La Tribuna.
Delegates from the Italian Cooperation agency are in Honduras, making the final preparations for donating the money to “José Cecilio del Valle” power plant.
Talks between both parties were suspended after the political crisis of June 28. The funds will be used to build 8 metal structures in the dam, and to develop irrigation projects.
Congressmen Ana Julia García told newspaper Elheraldo.hn: “I trust that President Lobo and his staff will soon reestablish diplomatic relations with Italy, for speeding up this donation”.
