From July 27th to 30th, the XXIV International Tasting The Best of Panama will take place virtually, in which 45 producers registered a total of 161 specialty coffee lots.

As part of the Agritrade Expo & Conference 2019, the first live auction of differentiated Guatemalan coffee will be held on February 20.

A Coffee Trade that will have a live auction to ease the business of differentiated Guatemalan coffee; a pavilion of plants and flowers; vegetables and fruits that will be known through Guatemalan chefs cooking the flavor that exceeds expectations, and 10 more activities, will be presented in the XIX Edition of AGRITRADE Expo & Conference, to more than 150 international buyers. Guatemala's exportable agricultural offer will be present and will seek to generate business for US$ 65 million in the short and medium term.
The lot that this year was best quoted in the international electronic auction reached $30 thousand per hundredweight, and the grain comes from the canton of Dota, Los Santos zone, Costa Rica.
The high quality coffee that received the best quote in the international electronic auction in the Cup of Excellence contest is from the Don Cayito farm, with a price of $30,009 per hundredweight.
A sample of the grain from a farm in the municipality of Acatenango obtained the highest price in the online auction known as the Coffee Excellence Cup in Guatemala.
Angel-in-us Coffee and Maruyama Coffee Co. yesterday bought the two lots of high-quality Pacamara coffee produced in the municipality of Acatenango by the El Paraxaj estate. In the Excellence Cup online auction, the highest price was $58 per pound and the second highest was quoted at $53.41.
In an online auction a pound of coffee harvested in the farm Los Jutes achieved the highest price, with $59 paid by an international buyer.
The winning coffee in the online auction known as the Cup of Excellence is of the geisha variety and was cultivated in Acatenango, municipality of Chimaltenango.
Starting April 10th coffee farmers can register their products for the pre-selection stage of specialty coffee contest.
The Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) and the National Coffee Association (Anacafe) are calling on coffee growers to take part in the Cup of Excellence 2016, the preselection for which starts on April 10, reported Dca. gob.gt.
In the Cup of Excellence auction the average price paid for the 24 lots of specialty coffee on offer was $9.17, while the maximum price was $25.80 per pound.
As in the 2014 auction, first place was obtained by the farm El Injerto, from the department of Huehuetenango. For the lot from this farm an international buyer paid $35.80 a pound.

Forty-nine samples qualified for the national competition, which will be used to select entrants in the international auction, the Cup of Excellence, to be held from 4 to 8 May.
Of the 117 samples that were received in the preselection stage, 49 were classified with a minimum score of 85 points. It is expected that the international auction of the winning samples will be carried out on July 1 over the Internet from Anacafé's facilities.
The international price of the grain fell to its lowest value in the last twelve months, despite the projected deficit for 2014/15 harvest.

February saw a continuation of the downward trend of recent months in the coffee market. The ICO daily composite price indicator fell to just below $1.30, more than $0.50 less than the most recent peak of $185.09 in October 2014.
European and American companies who buy specialty coffee in electronic auctions are losing ground to Asian buyers, who in auctions for top grains from markets such as Costa Rica and Guatemala, are pushing up prices to record levels.
Strong growth in coffee consumption in countries such as South Korea and Japan, coupled with the large purchasing power of its inhabitants has boosted demand for gourmet coffee and other special varieties.
Asian companies bought 16 pounds of gourmet coffee from a farm in El Progreso during the International Cup of Excellence auction.
The batch of coffee which achieved the highest price paid since the international Cup of Excellence auction began comes from the farm Kalibus de Sierra in San Cristobal Acasaguastlán, El Progreso.
"... the companies GSC International from Korea and Shanghai Borong International Trading from China joined forces to buy the lot from the estate. These companies also bought coffee from the farm El Injerto 1 in Huehuetenango for U.S. $20.30 per pound. "
Foreign investors continue to pour into the region in search of business opportunities in sectors traditionally handled by Central Americans.
Coffee producers of Dutch or Korean-American nationality were among the winners of the contest of fine coffees "The Best of Panama 2014", which involved 84 lots of fine, and traditional coffee.
"Heakyung Burneskis Kang, a Korean-American citizen, was one of the winners of the night, achieving first place in the categories of traditional natural coffees and traditional washed coffees".
In the first electronic auction of the Cup of Excellence 2013 organized by the National Coffee Association, the farm El Injerto obtained the highest price of $45.10 per pound.
This is the second year that El Injerto won first place in the auction, last year it managed to get a price of $22.60 per pound.
The lot sold by the farm El Morito took second place with a price of $32.10, and third place went to Coffee from the farm El Socorro y Anexos with $26.50 per pound.
The tenth edition of the online auction ‘Cup of Excellence’ will include 41 lots and 67 samples of the best coffees.
The purpose of the competition is to identify exceptional coffees lots for auction online. The panel of judges is composed of 18 international tasters, two national and six international observers, who will select the winners, reported Prensalibre.com.
