Because of the manufacturing industry's sales behavior, from January to November Salvadoran exports totaled $5.487 million, 3% more than in the same period in 2017.
Sales to the rest of the world of manufacturing industry, including maquila goods, reached US$5.319 million in November 2018, representing a 3% growth of the sector, informed the Central Reserve Bank.
Because of the sales behavior of the manufacturing industry, from January to October, the country's sales abroad totaled $5.008 million, 3% more than what was reported in the same period of 2017.
The manufacturing industry, including maquila goods, reached US$4,845.7 million exported up to October 2018, which shows a growth of 3.4% of the sector, reported the Central Reserve Bank.
In Guatemala, sales abroad totaled $8.147 million up to September, 3% less than in the first nine months of 2017.
The Banco de Guatemala reports that the total amount of General Commerce exports was at US$8,147.4 million, lower by US$220.5 million (-2.6%) to the registered up to September 2017 (US$8,367.9 million). The most important products according to their share in the total value of exports were: Clothing with US$1,092.8 million (13.4%); Coffee with US$633.1 million (7.8%); Banana with US$599.7 million (7.4%); Sugar with US$531.2 million (6.5%) and Fats and edible oils with $389.1 million (4.8%). These products accounted 39.9% of total exports.
Mainly explained by the performance of the manufacturing sector, between January and September 2018 exports totaled $4.518 million, 3% more than in the same period of 2017.
The manufacturing sector, including the maquila, closed with an inter-annual growth of 3.3% exporting a total of US$4,361.4 million, US$137.5 million more than in 2017, such increase is mainly due to the good performance of the maquila that has exported an additional US$132.3 million, informed the Central Reserve Bank (BCR).
In accordance with the decrease reported since the beginning of the year, sales abroad reached $7.348 million up to August, 2% less than that recorded in the first eight months of 2017.
The Banco de Guatemala report stated that the total exports of General Commerce were at US$7,347.5 million, lower by US$183.3 million (-2.4%) to the registered to August 2017 (US$7,530.8 million). The most important products according to their participation in the total value of exports were: Clothing with US$963.2 million (13.1%), Coffee with US$601.6 million (8.2%), Banana with US$532.2 million (7.2%), Sugar with US$488.5 million (6.6%) and Fats and edible oils with $347.1 million (4.7%). These products represented 39.8% of total exports.
In line with the decline reported since the beginning of the year, up to July, sales abroad totaled $6.455 billion, 3% less than what was recorded in the first seven months of 2017.
In the first semester, sales abroad exceeded $3 billion, 6% more than in the same period in 2017, mainly explained by the export performance of the manufacturing industry.
During the first half of the year, the main export sector was the manufacturing industry, which sold US $2,294.1 million worth of goods to the rest of the world.This sector increased its exports by US $75.2 million, according to data from the Central Reserve Bank.
In line with the trend seen since the beginning of the year, sales abroad between January and May totaled $4.698 billion, 3% less than in the same period last year.
Between January and May of 2018 exports totaled $2.516 billion, 5% more than in the same period in 2017, and again sales in the manufacturing industry accounted for most of the increase.
The Central Reserve Bank reported that "... The maquila industry ended the period with exports that reached US $518.6 million, higher by US $71.8 million compared to the same period in 2017, with a year-on-year growth of 16.1%."
During the first four months of the year, the country's sales totalled $3.777 billion, 2% less than the $3.855 million reported in the same period in 2017.
According to figures from the Banco de Guatemala in April 2018, the country exported $924 million, which is equivalent to a 3% decrease compared to the same month in the previous year.
Between January and April of 2018, exports exceeded $2 billion, 6% more than in the same period in 2017, and manufacturing sales accounted for most of the increase.
The Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported that during the first four months of the year "... Exports to the United States grew by 3.1% with a total of US $842.2 million, higher by US $25.2 million than the demand for the same period in 2017."
During the first quarter of the year, the country's tradedeficit totaled $1.614 billion, which is 9% higher than the $1.479 billion reported in the same period in 2017.
The Banco de Guatemala reported that as of March 2018 "... The total amount of General Trade exports stood at US $2.8598 billion, lower by US $48.3 million (-1.7%) than the amount registered in March 2017 (US $2.9081 billion).The most important products according to their share in the total value of exports were: Articles of Clothing with US $346.3 million (12.1%); Sugar with US $249.7 million (8.7%); Bananas with US $196.0 million (6.9%); Coffee with US $191.2 million (6.7%) and Cardamom with $146.8 million (5.1%).These products represented 39.5% of total exports."
Last year, economic activity and employment generation continued to rise, cumulative inflation reached 5.7% and international reserves were strengthened.

In January 2018, exports totaled $500 million, 17% more than in the same month in 2017, and sales of sugar and clothing accounted for most of the increase.
The Central Reserve Bank (Banco Central de Reserva or BCR) reported that during the first month there was a noteworthy "... positive result from 24 branches of the economy with export records, with the greatest contributions standing out as those from the sugar industry with US $35.8 million, maquila industrial services with US $16.4 million and textiles and their apparel with an additional US $11.2 million."
