The biosecurity regulations that will control operators of tourism, transport, restaurants, museums, theaters, archaeological and theme parks in this new context of health crisis were published.
As the restrictions imposed due to the covid-19 outbreak have started to be relaxed, the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) and the tourism sector businessmen refined the biosecurity protocols that they will apply for the staged return of the sector in the coming weeks.
Companies in the sector and the Guatemalan Tourism Institute are working on a proposal for rules for adventure tourism businesses in the country.

Guatemala November 10, 2016.Given the need to regulate and control all activities related to the adventure tourism segment, private public entities have initiated a regulatory process, forming the Technical Committee on Adventure.
In Costa Rica the union is opposed to the decision of the Ministry of Finance to charge 13% VAT on tourism enterprises for the use of protected areas.
From a statement issued by the National Chamber of Tourism:
Wednesday July 23, 2014. Perceiving it as a serious threat to the tourism industry, the National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR) categorically rejects the decision of the Ministry of Finance to extend the interpretation of Article 1, Section C of the General Sales Act, which taxes, with 13 % Value Added Tax on all State Protected Wild Areas, considering them to be provision of recreation services.
Tour operators do not have sufficient numbers of personnel who are trained as tourist guides tourists, nor is there an official organization to certify them.
Tourism businesses believe it is of the utmost importance that they have informed and personable tourist guides, as in the end they are the people who spend the most time with tourists.
