Authorities at the panamanian airport are planning to put out to tender 15 store spaces in the first six weeks of the year and another 25 throughout the year.
With a new business plan which aims to increase the number of passengers entering the country through the implementation of new flight routes and other strategies, the administrators of Tocumen Airport also plan to tender more commercial spaces.
Approval has been given to the design of a new maintenance hangar at the Juan Santamaria airport and the project will be started in the first half of the year.
In December the International Civil Aviation Organization approved plans and designs for the construction of a new 10,000 square meter hangar to accomodate up to 6 large aircraft. This will allow for the expansion of the main airport in Costa Rica to the east.
Copa Airlines has asked the Civil Aviation Authority for approval to operate two daily flights from Panama City to the province of Chiriqui.
If the application is approved, Copa Airlines will start to compete directly with Air Panama "... which holds a monopoly in the domestic market after the departure of Aeroperlas two years ago."
Airport authorities are preparing a plan to develop infrastructure for a free trade zone in an area measuring 70 hectares within the terminal.
The increase in cargo volume and the demands of logistics and transport have led to Panamanian authorities at Tocumen International Airport to propose two alternatives for the development of a free zone within the terminal.
Starting December 3rd United Airlines will have direct flights between Tocumen Airport and Denver airport in the USA.

"
From December 2014 Copa Airlines will fly directly from Tocumen twice a week to Havana, Cuba, and daily to Campinas, Brazil.

Panama City, Panama - July 23, 2014 - Copa Airlines, subsidiary of Copa Holdings, SA, {NYSE: CPA} today announced its achievements in the first half of the year and growth plans for the second half of 2014, including the initiation of two (2) new direct flights from Panama to Campinas in Brazil and Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba.
The company Sky Parking has ended the contract and the administration will now be handled by the state run Tocumen SA.
Extract from a statement issued by Tocumen International Airport:
"...The company Sky Parking, SA has terminated irrevocably the contract for management and operation of parking at Tocumen airport. "
The recovery of the parking places means that instead of 500 thousand dollars in income a year the State will now receive the amount of roughly 3 million dollars a year.
With a frequency of four times per week Copa Airlines has began operating a direct flight from Tocumen to the Canadian city of Montreal.

Copa Airlines, a member of the global airline network Star Alliance, began a nonstop service four times a week between Montreal and Panama on June 3, 2014, as part of its plans for a rapid expansion of the network this year.
The government has authorized the granting in concession of 4 acres to Vertikal Corporation for 20 years to operate a terminal to supply fuel to Tocumen airport.

The Cabinet Council has approved a resolution of agreeing to the award of a contract between the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) and the company Vertikal Corporation, Inc.
Starting October the airline Air France-KLM will increase to five the number of direct flights between Paris and Panama.
After four months operating direct flights from Paris to Panama, the airline will add two new frequencies making the total five flights a week.
"The additional flights will start operating from 27th October. With this increase, the Air France-KLM group will have 12 weekly flights to Europe from the air hub at Tocumen.
In March a tender will be held for the award of commercial spaces in the southern terminal of the international airport.
Tocumen SA plans to tender in March retail spaces in the south terminal of Tocumen International Airport. They're just waiting for the final plans in order to determine the space that will be used for the installation of the shops.
