The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is putting out to tender a two-lane extension of a 12-kilometer section of the road to Nuevo León, and the construction of cycle lanes and marginal streets.
With funding from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, four bridges will be built on the road linking the municipalities of Rio Blanco and Siuna in the North Caribbean.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport explained that the bridges to be built are Mulukukú, Lisawe, Labú and Prinzapolka, each with a length of 174 meters, 80, 90 and 92 meters, respectively. The bridges will be built on the road that connects the municipalities of Río Blanco and Siuna, in the North Caribbean.
The new content of the new regulation is structured thematically, and integrates some international elements in order to improve the quality of constructions.
It has been announced that in the coming weeks publication will be made of a new national building code, which is divided into different documents according to the type of material used.
Maycol Rugama, from the Department of Studies and Technology Construction Standards at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI), told Laprensa.com.ni that with this update documents will be separated into different standards for reinforced concrete, masonry, structural steel and electricwire systems."
The Ortega administration has announced that using financing from the CABEI a 52 kilometer hydraulic concrete highway will be built from Laguna de Perlas and Kukra Hill, in the Caribbean.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) will be for $65 million and will be used for construction of the road.
The country needs to double the 4,000 kilometers of existing roads in order to improve land connectivity among the 153 municipalities, mainly in the Caribbean.
Although public investment in road infrastructure has increased in recent years, in order to exploit the full potential of economic development, the existing road network needs to be doubled in order to achieve an "acceptable land connection".
The construction company Santa Fe has signed a contract with the government to start construction in two months time, of two sections of the Mulukukú- Siuna road measuring 23 and 21 kilometers.
The $40 million required to carry out the roadworks will come from a $149 million loan signed with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) in early 2015.
The IDB is providing $40 million in financing for construction of power substations in the north and $90 million for renovation of roads in Jinotega and Chontales.

With the plans to build a highway between the Pacific and the Caribbean coast in mind, a proposal has been made to build a port in Bluefields, instead of the one planned in Monkey Point.

The Nicaraguan government is preparing transportconcessions which will be granted from 2015 to cover the route that will connect Costa Rica once the Las Tablillas-San Pancho border post is finished.
