Nicaraguan textile companies expect an increase in sales after obtaining 'Better Work' certification which establishes better working conditions for employees.
The implementation of the program run by the International Labour Organization is a condition of international clothing brands such as Levi's, Target, GAP and other textile mills which need to buy materials to make their clothes, therefore its implementation in Nicaraguan companies is key to improving competitiveness and attracting new investment to the sector.
Cimer announced it will close its Levi´s jeans and Dockers production plant operating in Costa Rica.
Centro Industrial Manufacturero El Roble (Cimer), said in a press release that the closing shall occur gradually through January 2011 and that 230 employees will be relocated to other industrial enterprises in the area of Cartago.

A 250 square meter store will be opened in shopping mall Multiplaza Escazú.
The company invested around $200.000 in this store, which is the first one developed following new guidelines by Levi's head office in the United States.
"Marjorie Colocho, marketing manager at Cimer, [owner of Levi's license in Costa Rica] explained that 'Starting now, the company will begin a plan to implement the new store design in all its stores'", according to Elfinancierocr.com.
