The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Panama is inviting bids for the restoration of Bolivar Palace and internal adjustments of spaces in the offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The restoration project at Bolivar Palace involves structural improvement in general from its piles to the roof structure, including the roof structure of the central courtyard, lighting of monuments, flooring replacement in the "Plaza Libertadores".
Work on internal adjustments in the offices includes redesign of the electrical system, air conditioning and supply of voice and data, because of an increase in jobs in accordance with the re-distribution of these office spaces.
Also included is demolition of existing walls, repairs of ceilings, floors, painting of existing doors, supply of doors, re-location of office lighting, external and internal painting of the entire building. "

The government has joined the list of OECD jurisdictions which exchange tax information automatically, but has said that it will only start implementing the new mechanism in 2018.
The Government of the Republic of Panama explained to users of financial services platforms in Panama and the international community, that the country has announced its commitment to implement the mechanism for automatic exchange of information from 2018, and that this will be done strictly done on a bilateral basis, which is mutual and conditional, to ensure the protection of confidentiality, as was announced by President Juan Carlos Varela last September during the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations, in New York.
Signing of the agreement opens the way for the Asian country´s airlines to start flying to Panama City.
The Cabinet has authorized a bill approving an Air Services Agreement between Panama and Singapore.

"The Cabinet Council has given the green light to a bill approving an Air Services Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Panama and the government of the Republic of Singapore, signed in the city of Panama, on April 4, 2104 and which authorizes the Foreign Minister through a Cabinet Resolution to submit it to the National Assembly."
The Panamanian government intends to promote bilateral trade and use the country as a gateway to Africa.
With the opening of the embassy Panama will be able to explore new options for trade and commerce with Morocco.
The Deputy Foreign Minister of Panama, Mayra Arosemena told Prensa.com that "Moroccans have shown great interest in studying how Panama has managed to make its airport a hub or key continental link, something that could be done in Casablanca taking advantage of Morocco's position as a country uniting Africa and Europe.
Qatari Businessmen have announced to the Panamanian government their interest in building a refinery in Puerto Armuelles.
Panama's ambassador to Qatar, Javier Arias, confirmed that investors in that country have shown interest in building a refinery in the Central American nation.
"It's the first time Panama has looked to the Middle East as an investment partner.
The European Investment Bank is looking to fund new infrastructure projects such as the Metro Line 2 and a new bridge over the Canal.

A delegation from Banco Europeo de Inversiones (EIB), led by its chairman, Werner Hoyer, and Vice-President Magdalena Álvarez Arza, has met with the Foreign Minister, Fernando Nunez Fabrega, in order to jointly assess the possibility of funding new infrastructure projects in the country.
Both governments have agreed to launch negotiations for the South American country to remove Panama from the list of countries with low or no taxation.

"As a result of the official visit to Buenos Aires by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fernando Nunez Fabrega, a roadmap has been established that will allow Panama to join the group of countries friendly to Argentina on the issue of fiscal transparency.
"The dispute with Nicaragua is over", reported the Panamanian Foreign Ministry.
The agreement came after the president of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli, during his speech at the 68th General Assembly of the United Nations Organization (UN), criticized the intentions of the Nicaraguans in extending their territorial sea.
"My government sees it as imperative to categorically reject the attempted delimitation of maritime borders of the Republic of Nicaragua, because it violates existing treaties with Panama (...) I will gather all the necessary resources, under international law, in order to remedy the claim in this regard by Nicaragua," said Martinelli.
An agreement signed between the foreign ministries of Costa Rica and Panama was not enough for the Costa Rican truckers to lift the blockade in Paso Canoas, which has gone on for five days.
Juan Carlos Segura, a spokesman for the carriers, said that the 300 trucks at the border will remain in place because the compromise agreed by the ministers is a joke and does not address the abuses of the State Border Service of Panama (SENAFRONT).
Conflicts of interest between carriers and the apathy of the authorities of Costa Rica and Panama have kept the border blocked for all regional trade.

It's not just that immigration and customs officials do not provide a 24 hour service, as is needed, and as occurs at other Central American borders, but that in Paso Canoas, the governments of Costa Rica and Panama are not exercising their authority in a responsible manner, resulting in conflicts for one reason or another, with consequent blockades and closures that produce serious economic losses not only for Panamanians and Costa Ricans, but also for all Central American companies whose imports or exports pass through this border.
The Government and private sector of the country plan to expand their business in Latin America using Panama as its hub.

Panama's Foreign Minister has announced the completion of a "luxury summit" for Latin American leaders in the month of October.
Festieventos SA will be the company responsible for the organization of the XXIII Latin American Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held in Panama on the 18th and 19th of October.
This was the only company that participated in the bidding process conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama.
The two countries signed an agreement to avoid double taxation with respect to taxes on income and to prevent tax evasion.

The UK and Panama have signed a treaty to avoid double taxation with respect to taxes on income and to prevent tax evasion, bringing the total number of agreements of this nature signed by the Government to 18 and an equal number of nations who are mainly members European Union.
The agreement will allow Air France to start three weekly direct flights between the capitals of the two countries in November.
Elsiglo.com reports: "The agreement was signed by Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, from France, and Panamanian Foreign Minister, Fernando Nunez Fabrega at the Palace Quai D'Orsay in Paris, home of the French Foreign Ministry, as part of the tour that the Panamanian foreign minister is conducting in Europe ".
The Colon Free Zone will have to wait for the formation of a bilateral commission to address the method of payment of the $800 million owed to them.
That fact that the commission has not yet been formed means that it is almost impossible that the payment will be made immediately proclaimed the Panamanian leader Ricardo Martinelli after his visit to Venezuela.
