Eight bidders submitted offers in the tender conducted by the Public Services Authority to grant concessions for open radio frequency bands, AM and FM.
Of all the proposals only two did not meet the requirements, resulting in their rejection. Corporación Medcom Panamá S.A. bid $35,143 for the frequency 90.9 MHz (FM)-Bocas del Toro, and $18,116 for the frequency 100.7 MHz (FM)-Darien.

Faced with a over-burdened system that has caused delays in sending and receiving text messages, Panama Public Services Regulator (ARESEP in Spanish) has asked mobile telephone companies to expand their networks.
Prensa.com reports that, "this sector's standards state that companies must provide a service that meets certain quality parameters, otherwise they could be subject to sanctions, warned Edwin Castillo, Aresep's director of telecommunications".
The regulatory agency will make a new call to bids for leasing physical space for a data center, as the first process was declared deserted.
Edwin Castillo, Telecommunications director at the Public Services Authority, reported that none of the participating companies (Unión Fenosa, Redes de Telecomunicaciones, Cable & Wireless, Cable Onda, Columbus Networks and) Telefónica Móviles de Panamá) complied with the requirements, so a new acquisition process will be started.
