Another proposal in addition to the one suggested to the government by the company Del Monte, seeks to revive banana production on the 1,700 hectares owned by the former employees of Coosemupar.
The proposal put forward by the Atlantic Banana Cooperative (Cobana) includes a feasibility study which states that "... the projection is that from the seventh year onwards annual earnings will be obtained of between $3 million and $4 million."
The multinational Del Monte is now joined by Cooperativa Bananera del Atlántico, whose proposal to reactivate production of the fruit in the area would involve a total investment of $35 million.
The cooperative which already produces bananas in Changuinola presented to the Association of Agricultural Producers Rodolfo Aguilar Delgado (Aparad) a proposal to invest $20 thousand per hectare in order to revive banana production in the area which is currently owned by the former workers of Coosemupar.
