In order to reduce costs in computer security the Chinchilla administration has proposed using cloud services instead of acquiring its own infrastructure.
From a press release issued by the President of Costa Rica:
On Tuesday the president of the Republic Laura Chinchilla Miranda, the finance minister Edgar Ayales and the head of Science, Technology and Telecommunications, signed a guideline for saving computing resources in the State.
The U.S. cloud computing company has announced that it will open a contact center in Costa Rica.

The increasing trend for data storage on external servers has created new challenges that require a review of computer security policies.
The use of mobile devices and personal cloud services represent hitherto unknown challenges for the protection of sensitive business data.
"A study by Sophos revealed that 45% of people use personal services in the cloud for business purposes, although 64% felt that it generates potential risks to the company," reported Elfinancierocr.com.
Organizations that are unable to grow and upgrade their technologies at the speed dictated by the market, are destined to disappear.
Cloud computing technology leverages the resources of the Internet in order to save space and power on physical equipment, by moving most (or all) of the commonly used functions in the company, resulting in considerable savings in costs.
The adoption of business management software in the cloud continues to grow and is expected to grow 60% annually between 2011 and 2015.
However, there are many misconceptions about this type of service. Diego Gonzalez, in an article in América Economía, pointed out three of the more prevalent myths among executives.

Data center complexity, numerous applications, and disaster recovery plan issues are top concerns.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – January 11, 2010 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today released the findings of its 2010 State of the Data Center study. Now in its third year, the study found that mid-sized enterprises (2,000 to 9,999 employees) are more likely to adopt cutting-edge technologies such as cloud computing, deduplication, replication, storage virtualization, and continuous data protection than small or large enterprises to reduce IT costs and manage increasing complexity. Further, mid-sized enterprise data centers show more activity, with more IT managers predicting major changes to the data center and new applications in 2010. Mid-sized enterprises also place a higher importance on staffing and training than their small or large enterprise counterparts. The study is based on surveys of 1,780 data center managers in 26 countries in November 2009.

Mario Estrada, Racsa's marketing manager, told Nacion.com: "The 'cloud' will be located in Racsa's servers. In them we will store the data, and the customer will be able to load his configuration and documents from any Internet-enabled computer".
"Cloud Computing" is now a practical reality, outsourcing computation services carries remarkable cost savings.
If your company is medium or large, you may save tens of thousands of dollars each year. If its small, you will not only save money, but also your own time, by not having to worry about performance, software maintenance and renewal, nor hardware.
You will have no more concerns about the computer platform; others will do it for you and you will be able to focus on information management for your business.
The "cloud" concept, defined as an infrastructure and information software resource that is both dynamic and scalable, consolidates everything and makes it no longer necessary for each company to acquire and maintain the material resources and human expertise needed to ensure data processing.
Albeit at a slower pace in 2009 than in 2008, Latin America will remain one of the fastest-growing ICT markets of the world.
The global economic crisis will no doubt hit Latin America’s ITC market strongly during 2009, particularly during the first two quarters of the year. Be it by the selffulfilling effect of user expectations, or because of a real crunch on capital, it is little but naïve to underestimate the impact of such a strong global force.
