The Ecuadorian company Importadora Industrial Agrícola is negotiating the purchase of Cardoze & Lindo, Panama's leading provider of heavy equipment to the construction sector.
The general manager of Cardoze & Lindo, Jorge Cardozo, told Prensa.com that negotiations for the sale of shares by the distributor of the Caterpillar brand in Panama, could be finalized by the end of September. He confirmed that company executives from the Ecuadorian Agricultural Industrial Importer (IIASA) were conducting inventories and audits in facilities Cardoze & Lindo.
While at least seven call centers have ceased operations in the country, others are being opened as multinational companies move in to install regional headquarters.
The balance, however, is negative. By the end of 2009, there were 1,000 less jobs in the call center industry than in its golden age, 2006.
The multinational construction company started building a training center for the entire continent in Panama.
According to statements from Martín Torrijos, President of Panama, in an article by AFP in mipunto.com, the new center will create about 500 jobs and represent an investment of $25 million.
Panamanian business persons and some 100 American companies will take part in the "Panama-United States" Forum on September 16 and 17.
The event will be held in Washington and will have the participation of companies such as Caterpillar, Hewlett Packard, Procter & Gamble, 3M and Dell who will give testimonies about their operations in the country.
Panama's comptroller-general ratified a contract between Caterpillar Latin America, the Finance Ministry and the Agency for Panama-Pacific Special Economic Area.
