Instead of contracting international consulting company through a tender it has been proposed that the SAT should turn to the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations and other lower-cost options.
Experts on tax matters in Guatemala are looking for alternatives to the government's proposal to hold an international competition for services for fiscal management, with one of the first suggestions being, "... to turn to the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), a nonprofit body of which Guatemala is a member, to advise and cooperate on the objectives stated in the tender, approved by the Board of Tax Administration (SAT).
The project aims to encourage information sharing in order to strengthen measures to prevent money laundering by the drug trade.
Argentina's tax authority (AFIP in Spanish), proposed that a multi-lateral tax information agreement be implemented, which could be adopted by Central American countries and others in Latin America, if it is approved by the Inter-American Tax Administration Center (CIAT in Spanish).
