The McDonald's chain will invest $5 million this year in launching three new restaurants, completing 70 points of sale in the country.
The company reported that one of the new restaurants is currently being built in Concepción de La Union, Cartago, but regarding the location of the other two establishments, preferred not to give details.
The fast food chain opened restaurant number 38 in Costa Rica.
Located at the new mall Momentum Pinares, it generated 70 new jobs.
"This location will be the first of two new ones in more than 10 years, and includes a freestanding design, Automac, Mc Café, Play Place and birthday party area," according to the article in El Financiero´s website.
By the end of the year, the multinational fast food chain plans to open four new restaurants.
Arcos Dorados, owner of the Costa Rican McDonald's franchise, expects to hire 300 people to work in the new restaurants.
Maureen Dávila, human resources manager for McDonald’s Costa Rica, commented to Elfinancierocr.com that, “the location of the new restaurants is still being studied and negotiated so we cannot disclose that information at the moment”.
The $2 million restaurant maximizes usage of natural light and does not need air conditioning.
Located in Lindora, Santa Ana, western San José, it has 400 square meters of construction. It employs 50 people, and is the chain's 34th store in the country.
According to Arcos Dorados, McDonald's operator in Costa Rica and Latin America, this is the first "ecological" restaurant in Central America.
In the first six months of the year, four fast food franchises have opened six new restaurants.
With an investment of $3.5 million, the firm QSR (Quick Service Restaurant), owner of the franchises KFC, Quiznos, and Teriyaki, opened three locations in Santa Ana. Arcos Dorados, the owner of the McDonald’s franchise, opened three locations in San Ramon, Grecia, and Liberia.
The Golden Arches group, which manages the McDonald's franchise in Central America, announce that Costa Rica and Panama will receive an investment of more than $3 million in remodeling and new restaurants.
Loney Armijo, regional operations director of Golden Arches, said that they will be investing some $3.5 million in Panama in 2008 and 2009. While in Costa Rica it will be $4 million since they are planning to open 4 new restaurants in Villa Grecia, San Ramon and Liberia.
