A project has been presented for the construction of a convention center in the province of Chiriqui, to be erected on ten acres belonging to the Technological University of Panama.

Authorities from the Technological University of Panama (UTP) led by the rector Oscar Ramirez, presented to the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Chiriqui a project for the construction and management of a convention center in the province of Chiriqui.
The business association of Chiriquí has asked for an adjustment in the prices of electricity, considering that this province and Bocas del Toro generate 60% of the energy produced in the country.

The meeting on the rise in electricity prices realized held with Roberto Meana, director general of the Authority for Public Services (ASEP), along with representatives from the various productive sectors at the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Chiriqui (CAMCHI ), the governor of the province of Chiriqui, Hugo Mendez and representatives of the Board of the Hospital Materno Infantil Jose Domingo De Obaldia, developed an extensive debate which brought up interesting proposals to mitigate the impact of rising energy costs in the region, taking into account that between Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro 60% of the country's electricity is produced.
Traders are complaining that the measure creates shortages and are demanding to value products by their quality and not in a general way.
The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Chiriquí further states that because of ignorance of the measure, the assessment being made of products is inappropriate because it does not take into account the quality of them when determining the price.
From August 19-21 entrepreneurs from various productive sectors will gather in David to discuss business opportunities.

In order to strengthen trade between Panama, Costa Rica, Central America and other countries, the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Chiriquí (CAMCHI) in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Panama, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) will be holding a Business Roundtable from 19 to 21 August 2014 in the halls of the International Fair of David.
Over the past two years the province of Chiriqui has doubled the number of hectares planted with palm oil, reaching 18,936 hectares.
The figures were released by the Chamber of Commerce, Chiriquí (Camchi). Meanwhile, Victor Watts, vice president of Palm Growers Association and member of the Chamber of Commerce, Chiriquí, says that cultivation of this type has replaced rice and banana in the Baru area in 90% of cases.
The lowest price bid for the construction of the Panamanian prison facility was submitted by the company Quality Asociados for $18,596,759.
The tender specifications set a reference price of $19 million for the construction of a prison in Chiriqui with a capacity for 1,000 inmates.
The company Comsa-Teyco meanwhile bid an amount of $18,925,135, and the third bidder, the consortium Eduintes-Copisa submitted its bid in the amount of $18,929,929.
