The Chinese are in third place in terms of expenditure on travel, just behind the United States and Germany. By 2015 they will be in second place.
According to the latest Global Trends Report, spending on accommodation by Chinese tourists in 2011 will amount to around $57 billion, ranking them third behind the Americans and Germans.
By 2015 the volume of expenditure is expected to increase by17%, to $67 billion.
The country will host from today until September 29 the IX Central American Forum of Small Hotels.
Organized by the Central Federation of Small Hotels (FECAPH), the event brings together the region's hoteliers to define strategies to improve competitiveness.
"In parallel, a "Provider’s Fair " will also be running, which aims to improve infrastructure investments.
The low-cost airline will operate 4 weekly flights between New York and the Costa Rican city of Liberia, on the Pacific coast.
Jet Blue, which already operates a route between Orlando and the Costa Rican capital, San José, announced that the new flight will be available from November 17, 2011.

Thomson Airlines will operate a direct flight between London and Liberia airport starting November 2nd.
The flight will be operated once a week by a Boeing 767 with room for 258 passengers.
Interviewed by Prensalibre.com Carlos Ricardo Benavides, Minister of Tourism, says; "This flight will generate a significant increase in British tourists with a 14 day stay, with varied travel options which include different areas of the country like the North, the Caribbean and North Pacific.”
Tourism businesses in the province of Guanacaste have requested more action from the country's government.
The requests from the Guanacastean Tourism Association (Caturga in Spanish) include greater international promotion and the creation of a seasonal financial support plan for companies.
As of August 2010, tourist numbers were up on 2008 and 2009 but the visitor profile is different with lower average spending, according to Prensalibre.cr.
From January 14th, 2011, Apple Vacations Tourism Company will offer a direct flight between Liberia and Chicago.
The new route will be operated by the airline USA3000, with vacation packages aimed at middle and upper-middle class citizens.

On September 2010, and after a $2 million investment, the current “Centro Colón” hotel will be rebranded to “DaysInn”.
This hotel will be the first in Central America by this brand, owned by Wyndham Hotels.
Ligia Vargas, marketing manager of the current Centro Colón hotel, explained that the works were focused on renewing rooms and bathrooms and changing furniture, to adapt the hotel to the standards of the new brand.
