Panama Metro tenders engineering services for the design, supply, assembly and installation, testing and commissioning of the integrated railway system for the extension to Villa Zaita and integration with the existing Line 1.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration will execute a non-reimbursable Technical Cooperation to carry out studies to identify the feasibility of developing the railway network of Line 5 of the Panama Subway.
The non-reimbursable Technical Cooperation amounts to $630,000 and was recently approved by the Republic of Korea within the framework of the CABEI-Korea Sole Donor Trust Fund (KTF), according to an official statement.
After several complaints filed in the bidding process for the design and construction of Metro Line 3, the authorities decided to dismiss the allegations made by the ACPC Consortium and the company China Railway Group Limited.
In December 2019, it was announced that the report of the evaluation board had been partially annulled and the committee was instructed to conduct a new analysis of the proposals of HPH Joint Venture and China Railway Group.
After having stopped the process because of an action proposed by one of the participating consortiums, the authorities decided to lift the suspension of the tender for the design and construction of the branch that will connect the future ITSE with the international airport of Tocumen.
The tender was suspended at the beginning of November because of an action presented to the General Directorate of Public Contracting (Dgcp) by Consorcio Línea Aeropuerto, in which it requested the designation of a new commission to evaluate technical proposals, the partial annulment of the report of the evaluating commission and a new analysis of its technical proposal.
Work on the 15.8 km metro line 1 is 94% complete, and it is projected to be operational in February 2014.
The system will be 15.8 kilometers long, with twelve stations and its current cost is $1.8 billion.
Elsiglo.com reports: "... the Secretary of the Metro, Roberto Roy, confirmed an addendum to build a station in the area of El Ingenio, in Betania, and extending 2.1 kilometers of elevated section from Station Los Andes to San Isidro, San Miguelito, is with the Comptroller pending approval. "
A bill has been presented which creates the state-owned company Metro de Panamá S.A. whose entire stake is to be held by the Panamanian government.

The bill creating the company Metro de Panamá S.A. was presented by the Minister of the Presidency, Roberto Henriquez, before the National Assembly after the announcement came that this system of mass transit will begin operations in March 2014.
The addendum to the contract with Consorcio Línea Uno for the extension of the railway system from Los Andes to San Isidro, has been officially signed.
This was announced by Minister for Canal Affairs and Executive Secretary of the Panama Metro, Roberto Roy. The official explained that the cost of the extension will not be revealed until they have completed the verification process with the General Comptroller of the Republic.
In late 2013 and early 2014 "dry run" tests will be carried out of the metro system, a phase during which passengers will be able to use the transportation system without paying fares.
Panamaamerica.com.pa reports that "the Presidency Minister, Roberto Henriquez, announced that in January the subway system will be operating for free".
In the meantime the remaining nine trains are expected to arrive in the country, while the other ten have already been assembled and are in the testing phase.
