The Ministry of Finance intends to tenderdrug distribution services for the entire country's hospital network in order to reduce losses from expired medicines.
In response to the loss of approximately $27.2 million due to the expiration of medicines, a proposal has been put forward to the Medicinal Trust Committee to hire a company, domestic or foreign, which specializes in the distribution of medicines. This project will be raised within the framework of the decentralization process promoted by the government in various state institutions.
The Ministry of Health is evaluating whether to use private companies to outsource the service of distributing medicines for public hospitals.
Due to the lack of capacity to supply medicines to national hospitals, the Health Ministry has said it plans to privatize the distribution process of the drugs. In order to realize this project they argue that it is necessary to remove central storage and update the basic list of medicines.
To solve the problems of distributing medicines to hospitals, the Health Ministry may hire a courier company.
"We have several alternatives and it could be, for example, that transport ... rather than have being done by the Secretariat, be done using a private system, the kind of business that delivers goods," said the chief of Health, Salvador Pineda.
