Importers buy directly in producing countries and occasionally provide services of relabeling, washing, packing, transporting and carrying out import formalities.

The largest importer of papaya in Europe is Germany, however, Holland works as a commercial hub and distribution of fresh fruits, and is the main re exporter of this product to other countries in the region, mainly to Germany, the UK and Sweden.
Spanish investors have announced an interest in local production of 1200 hectares of avocado, 800 of mangos, 300 of papaya, and 1,500 of organic coffee.

The Commercial Office of Peru (OCEX) in Washington has announced that from the second half of 2015 Peruvian mangos and papayas will enter the US market, according to a report issued by the Department of Agriculture of the United States.
In 2014 papaya imports increased by 15% compared to 2013, maintaining the upward trend seen since 2011 and reflecting the increased consumption of the fruit in the country.

US consumers, according to new food trends, are reacting positively to the attributes of fruits such as papaya, since it has a high content of vitamins and nutrients needed to stay healthy.
In the Morelos region more papaya of the superior performance varieties "Intenzza" and "Maradol" are being grown.

Mexico increases papaya cultivation
As part of an agricultural diversification, in the region east of Morelos there is continued expansion of the area cultivated with papaya, a product that is positioning itself as one of the most important due to its profitability, the quality achieved using technical advice obtained from agricultural authorities.
The U.S. Food Administration (FDA), has prevented the entry of Mexican papaya into U.S. territory.
The alert was issued after finding salmonella contamination in several shipments.
In a statement, the FDA said it will work jointly with the Mexican National Health, Safety and Food Quality Service in order to eliminate the contamination from its producing regions.
