Total Eren Guatemala, S.A. and Corporación Klondike, S.A., presented their bids in Guatemala for the supply of electricity generated by photovoltaic solar systems, up to a maximum of 110 MW under the BOT modality.
On July 31, the National Institute of Electrification received bids for the public tender, which includes the installation of five solar power generators through the photovoltaic system for 110 megawatts.
Fifteen companies submitted their technical and financial proposals for Tender 1-2015 convened by the energy distribution companies.
From a statement issued by Empresa Electrica de Guatemala SA (EEGSA):
In response to the demand for electricity by Guatemalans, the ENERGUATE and distributors EEGSA received technical and financial bids from generators participating in the Short Term Tender 1-2015 which will provide 210 MW for the period of one calendar year, starting on May 1, 2015.
Due to delays in some of the projects where contracts had been signed to supply power starting from May 2015, Energuate will be receiving bids in March in order to replace part of that supply.
Bids will be received in late March and in the adjudication of these 180 MW of power the lowest price offerings will be favored. Among the projects which have been delayed are Energía del Caribe (120MW) and the hydroelectric stations Tres Ríos (5MW) and San Luis (6.56 MW).
In the tender to supply 18 MW using small generating plants 18 offers were presented totaling 120 MW.
The first tender being held for small generators exceeded industry expectations. Currently the technical bids are being evaluated and it is expected that financial bids will be opened on the 12th of December so that the selected companies can begin providing energy between May 2015 and December 2016.
The supply, installation and commissioning of 3,045 individual photovoltaic systems in the community of Coban was awarded to the company Consorcio Mavico-Blindajes Maya S.A.
Ten companies submitted bids in the tender, with the highest bid presented by Mass Tierra Guatemala S.A,, for $12.3 million, and the lowest presented by the company who won the award.
65 companies submitted bids for power generation based on coal, bunker fuel and renewable sources at an average cost of between $112 MW / h and $117 MW / h.
Starting now "... the technical teams of the Empresa Electrica de Guatemala, SA (EEGSA) Energuate will be evaluating the proposals for three weeks. "
"...The award is scheduled to be made by a virtual auction on August 26, meaning that contracts will take effect in May 2017.
In a second round of bidding for the period 2015/2017 the bidders had lower prices, but the government believes these can be further reduced.
The same 14 generators who took part in the first round had sales prices ranging from $0.50 to $10.
"Dimas Carranza, Member of the Tender Board of the distributor Energuate, said they hope that with these new offers they will manage to reduce rates for users."
