Terminal 2, whose opening is scheduled for next year, promises to improve conditions at the Panamanian airport, making it competitive with other hubs in Latin America.
The new Terminal 2, which is 92% complete, will have capacity to serve aircraft in 20 contact doors and 8 remote locations, taxiways, parking platform and aircraft circulation, adding up to pavement surface measuring more than 250,000 square meters.
The approval of the contract by the Congress of Honduras authorizes the State to co-fund with $76 million the project awarded to Inversiones EMCO.

The National Congress approved in a session on Tuesday, in a second debate, the contract for the construction of Palmerola international airport and the new Law on Decentralization of the State of Honduras.
In this regard, approval was given on a second reading, of the the draft decree sent by the Executive Branch, which contains the concession contract for the project "Design, Construction, Financing, Operation and Maintenance of Palmerola international airport of the Republic of Honduras. The approximate cost of the project is 163 million dollars and the contract for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the International Airport in Palmerola, which was signed on March 31, has a concession period of 30 years.
A contract has been signed for the start of works on the International Airport in Palmerola, Comayagua, so that operations can start in 2018.
Following the signing of the official contract, construction of the new International Airport in Palmerola, in the department of Comayagua, will begin in May, for operations to start in 2018. This was announced by the Spanish concessionaire EMCO Corporation.

It has been announced that nine companies have already acquired the specifications for the tender to build Palmerola airport and in late November the work will be awarded.

The Commissioner President of the Commission for the Promotion of Public Private Partnership (COALIANZA), Erasmo Padilla said that in late November the International Airport of Palmerola will be awarded, and that there are a total of nine companies who have bought the rights to participate.
Coalianza has announced that it envisages extending for 60 days the deadline for the receipt of tenders for the construction of Palmerola airport in Honduras.
Fearing absence of bidders, an extension has been given to the process of acceptance of companies interested in taking in the two phases of the project, which together represent an investment of $135 million.
Spain has confirmed a contribution of $52 million for the construction of the airport, but there is still $83 million left which the Honduran government is looking to raise through a public-private partnership.

Advanced Logistics Group is revising the airport design, analyzing the structure of the $110 million investment and preparing a new tender.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Utilities (Insep) together with Coalianza is holding meetings with the Spanish company Advanced Logistics Group (ALG) to structure the specifications for the new tender, review the investment program and design of the airport terminal.

A subsidiary of Terra Group will be responsible for the design, financing, construction, and maintenance and operation of the International Airport at Palmerola.

The Commission for the Promotion of Public Private Partnerships (COALIANZA) has awarded to Constructora de Servicios Aeroportuarios Integrados S.A.(SAISA), the Contract for the Design, Financing, Construction, Maintenance and Operation of Palmerola International Airport, which will be located in the city of Comayagua, on the road axis between Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.
The company which is already operating other airports in Honduras was the only one to provide a technical and financial proposal for the award.
The Honduran company Servicios Aeroportuarios Integrados S.A. (Saisa), a subsidiary of Terra Group, submitted the technical and financial offer after being shortlisted along with the consortium of Colombian origin Concay SA, who ultimately decided not to present a proposal for the construction of the new terminal.
After a process that has gone on for several years in Honduras the start of the opening of bids for the concession of the international airport in Comayagua has begun.
