Dos Pinos will begin to compete in the Costa Rican beef, pork and sausage market through the La Granja brand.
The companies informed that the plan is to offer the new line of products starting in the second half of 2021, being caterers, bakeries and grocery stores, the marketing channels that will be used to reach consumers.
During the first four months of 2021, companies operating in Costa Rica sold $22 million worth of beef to China, this figure represents 54% of the total exported by the Central American country.
Data from the Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (Procomer) show that from January to April of this year, Costa Rican beef exports to China totaled $22 million, to the U.S. $8 million and to Puerto Rico $5 million.
Last year, 44 environmental impact studies were presented in countries in the region for construction of industrial plants of different types and improvements in some existing ones.
The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were presented to the respective institutions of each country.
In Costa Rica, producers of buffalo, rabbit and lamb meat sell their products through restaurants and some supermarkets, in response to growth in consumption which has been noted in recent years.
The sophistication of consumption, hand in hand with a greater diversification in the gastronomic supply at restaurants has been pushing up demand for nontraditional meats, such as rabbit, buffalo and lamb.
In the last five years annual per capita consumption of pork in the countries of the region increased from 4.6 kilos in 2012 to 5.3 kilos in 2016, and growth was driven mainly by Panama and Costa Rica.
Between 2012 and 2016 regional pork consumption has maintained an upward trend, growing from 205 thousand tons in 2012 to 249 thousand tons in 2016, which is an increase of 21%.
Paraguayan exporters have requested health permits to sell meat to Panama, from where they plan to redistribute it to other countries in the region.
Currently a sanitation mission from Panama is inspecting the health system and industrial facilities in Paraguay, which has the advantage of having authorization to export to the European Union. This certification would facilitate the process of obtaining permits in Central America.
Between January and November 2014, after obtaining sanitary permits, two companies managed to export to beef to China for $9.1 million.

In one year, shipments of this product to China grew by 707.1%, making the country the third destination of our bovine meat exports.
The high expectations held by beef producers in relation to exports to China, have gradually been fulfilled, according to the latest annual statistics compiled by the Livestock Development Corporation (CORFOGA), making the country the third most important destination for the product.
An announcement has been made that Costa Rica is now authorized to export beef to the Arab country and negotiations are being held for the sanitation certificate for export, which will be ready in two months.

According to a letter from the Ministry of Environment and Water, of the United Arab Emirates, signed by Mohd Shammat Abdoun; Costa Rica is authorized to export beef to the country. The National Animal Health Service (SENASA) is negotiating with China the country the sanitation certificate for export, which is expected to be approved in about two months.
An announcement has been made that the South American country has been authorized to export a type of beef produced without hormones or antibiotics, endorsed by the Department of Agriculture.

Increased competition and rising production costs are causing firms in the sector to revive their production processes with new plants, equipment and electrical systems.
The three companies which dominate 92% of the market for chicken meat and its derivatives are making significant investments to modernize their production processes in an increasingly competitive world where consumption has maintained a steady upward trend.
Chicken meat imports in Costa Rica had a growth of 57% in 2012 over the previous year, while beef only grew 46%.

In 2012 the country imported $48.3 million worth, an increase of 28% compared to the previous year.
Imports of frozen bovine meat recorded the highest increase in monetary terms, with imports in 2012 having increased by more than $4.4 million compared with the previous year, going from $9.6 million in 2011 to approximately $14 million in 2012.
Plants and establishments producing beef in Costa Rica, are being inspected as a requirement before the opening of the Peruvian market for this product.
From Monday 18 to Friday 22, the technical mission from the South American country, will be inspecting establishments such as Visión Comercial, Coopemontecillos, Ganaderos Industriales de Costa Rica and Frionet. The review is part of the certification process to export beef to that country.
The company C&D will send the first of the containers in which between 550 and 820 thousand pounds of various cuts of beef will be transported to the Taiwanese market during 2013.

Two Costa Rican meat processing plants have received authorization from the Chinese authorities to export beef to the Asian country, and another two received minimal observations.
China's support for the export of beef by the companies El Arreo y Visión Comercial was reported last week by the authorities of the National Health Service.
