In 2020, the main exporter of fresh or dried bananas in Central America was Costa Rica, with $1,083 million, followed by Guatemala, with $930 million, Honduras, with $531 million, Panama with $152 million and Nicaragua with $23 million.

Between August 2019 and December 2020, there was evidence of an upward trend in the average price of Central American frozen fruit exports, as it increased from $1.04 to $1.45 per kilo.

During 2020, Central American vegetable exports totaled $318 million, 34% more than what was reported in 2019, a rise that is largely explained by the performance of sales to U.S. companies.

Last year, trade in paints and varnishes between Central American countries amounted to $123 million, which is 10% lower than in 2019, a drop that was reported in the context of the economic crisis resulting from the Covid-19 outbreak.

During 2020, companies in the region bought corn abroad for $998 million, 5% more than what was reported in 2019, a variation that is explained by the increase in imports from Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and Costa Rica.

In 2020, companies in the region bought abroad air conditioning equipment for $147 million, with Nicaragua being the only Central American market that in year-on-year terms increased its imports.

After in May of last year in the context of the pandemic, regional purchases of tractors fell to a historic low at $4 million, in the following months imports showed a recovery and in December amounted to $20 million.

In recent years, regional avocado exports have gained importance, as in 2018 they amounted to $2.8 million, in 2019 they climbed to $10.9 million and in 2020 they rose to $11.9 million.

Between November 2019 and September 2020, an upward trend in the average price of regional coffee exports was reported, going from $2.44 to $3.31 per kilo.

From January to September 2020 Central America allocated $92 million to the import of paper or corrugated cardboard boxes, and purchases from Mexico increased 125% over what was reported in the same period of 2019.
