The Panamanian government issued a favorable concept for the establishment and operation of five free trade zones in the country, which together project an investment of $22 million.
The free trade zones, which will develop diverse economic activities such as agribusiness, scientific research centers, storage of goods, international trade, fruit processing and agricultural production, among others, will be located in the provinces of Panama, Chiriqui and Herrera, informed the Presidency of Panama.
America Free Zone, located in Heredia, Costa Rica, plans to execute an investment plan in the next few years totaling close to $120 million and contemplates the implementation of electro-lane stations and the construction of new infrastructure.
Executives of the business complex informed that up to now they offer their clients 200 thousand m2 of space for business activities, but the medium-term plans are to add another 60 thousand m2.
In Guatemala, the Miel Verde project, Special Public Economic Zone, was approved. In its first phase of development, it will require an investment of close to $4 million and will be located in the municipality of Río Hondo, department of Zacapa.
The new special zone will have a total area of 23,544 square meters, however, in the first phase only an area of approximately 5,173 square meters will be developed.
In a 30-hectare lot located five kilometers from the Container Terminal in Moin, Costa Rica, construction will begin in the first half of 2021, a logistics complex that will focus on the management of local or imported cargo.
The project, called "Plataforma Logística Caribe" (PLACA), will be placed near Route 32, the road section from Limón to San José.
In order to house companies that are about to start operations or for companies that need to expand their operations in Coyol Free Zone, the Costa Rican industrial complex is building new infrastructure for an area equivalent to 67,347 square meters.
According to information disseminated by the industrial park located in Alajuela, Costa Rica, 17,725 square meters are currently being built, corresponding to new expansion processes of companies already installed and requiring more physical space to operate.
Portafolio Inmobiliario announced that it will begin the development of the Green Valley Free Trade Zone project, which in its first stage contemplates the construction of a Free Trade Zone located in the municipality of Grecia, province of Alajuela.
The total land on which the project will be located amounts to more than one million square meters, however, its construction will be carried out in stages.
Code Development Group announced that it plans to build a new free zone in Grecia de Alajuela, Costa Rica, which would house companies in the high technology sector.
Directors of Code Development Group, who are also part of the group of partners of the Free Zone of Coyol, reported that the new business park would be named "Code" and that the project already has the endorsement of the municipality of Greece.
In the Dominican Republic, approvals were granted for the development and operation of four new industrial parks, as well as the respective permits to install 12 new companies in free trade zones.
In the case of the new parks, these will be located in Boca Chica, Valverde, San Cristobal and Santiago, reported the National Council of Export Processing Zones (CNZFE).
Although in Costa Rica the level of unemployment of buildings in industrial parks is 8%, some precincts are facing threats, since companies could leave them because of the traffic congestion in the area where they are located and the travel time of employees.
For Colliers, other threats faced by industrial parks in the country to have their facilities unoccupied are that companies have several sites for the separation of their processes and competition for human resources.
In the Dominican Republic, contracts were approved for the development and operation of four parks in export processing zones and 13 permits for the installation of companies.
The National Council of Export Processing Zones (CNZFE) reported last May 21 that it approved permits for two new parks of processing zones to be built in Boca Chica, and another in Nigua.
The first of the five buildings that will form part of the La Lima Corporate Center was launched in Cartago, which will require a global investment of close to $98 million.
