The Costa Rican Social Security Department is putting out to tender the construction and equipping of the Emergency Services Hospital Dr. Fernando Escalante Pradilla, in Perez Zeledon.
The bid opening is scheduled for 10:00 am on January 21, 2014.
A site visit will be carried out at 11:00 am on November 7, 2013, at the Financial Administrative Department of Dr.
With an investment of about $36 million, the Social Security Department will be putting out to tender later this year the construction of an Oncology Tower at Hospital Calderon Guardia.
The hospital's director, Dr. Luis Paulino Hernández, told La Prensa Libre, "We are thinking of having five floors, the idea is that we will move the staff we have now and strengthen the hospital with other positions in medical, nursing, nutrition, cleaning and security areas, we will have 60 beds".
The Social Security Department will build a new medical tower at Calderon Hospital, and nine new primary care centers.
An article in Crhoy.com reports that "The Social Security Department (CCSS in Spanish) has approved the use of 13,550 million colones ($26 million) for the construction of 9 EBAIS (primary care) centers and the start of works on the medical tower at Calderon Guardia Hospital in the first stage. "
Hospital Metropolitano has announced the purchase and retrofit of a building in the center of the capital San Jose, with an initial investment of $5 million.

Hospital Metropolitano to have new Medical Tower
- The medical center will house 50 offices, and will offer specialties such as neurosurgery, obstetrics, orthopedics, and will include a pharmacy, optical services, coffee shop, a bank and indoor parking.
The Government of Costa Rica has announced the construction of a new hospital in the province of Puntarenas, with a loan of $100 million from CABEI.
The new structure will be located on a plot of 15 acres owned by the National Production Council, which was given as payment for debts that the NPC had with the IRS. The Ministry of Finance, in turn, gave it to the Social Security Department.
The Social Security Department has begun negotiations with the World Bank for $400 million to build a replacement hospital in Puntarenas, which was damaged by the recent earthquake.
The $400 million would also serve to finance other Social Security Department (CCSS) projects, including digital records, work on the new hospital in Cartago, and a new medical tower for the San Juan de Dios Hospital.
From 17 to 18 October 2012 there will be a meeting in Bogota for major infrastructure project developers, investors, employees and service providers.
Colombia is aiming to triple investment in infrastructure in order to modernize roads and railways, and through this optimize the implementation of trade agreements with global economies.
The Social Security Department will carry out renovation work on infrastructure and equipment of operating rooms, for some $14 million.
An investment of $13.8 million in the San Juan de Dios Hospital in the capital will include the renovation of the 15 operating rooms the institution has. Work will begin in April and May and should be completed within one year, said the director of the Hospital, Hilda Oreamuno.
The Costa Rican Social Security Institute (CCSS) has announced the construction of a Center for Integrated Health Care in Limon.
From the second half of this year, the CCSS will build a Center for Integral Health Care in the canton of Siquirres, Limon, for $23.56 million. The center should open its doors in early 2014.
"The chief executive of the institution, Ileana Balmaceda, said the aim with this new medical center is to provide care for the Caribbean population, strengthen services in the area and relieve the hospitals Tony Facio in Limon, Guapiles and Calderon Guardia in San Jose", reported laprensalibre.cr. "This will benefit about 90,000 people in the areas of Siquirres, Batan, Pocora and Matina," said Balmaceda.
The institution said it will invest a total of $270 million during 2012, mainly in the construction of a Trauma Hospital and IT modernization.
These initiatives were conceived in 2007 when the institution outlined its Integrated Plan for Competitiveness, said William Constenla, CEO of the Instituto Costarricense de Seguros (INS).
The Trauma Hospital, which will specialize in the treatment of accidents, is scheduled to be ready in June 2013, and will have 220 beds and eight operating rooms on five levels, and will employ about 400 people.
Experts on railways, ports, transport and highways are undertaking inspections of projects as part of the cooperation agreement signed between both countries.
A press release from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport reads:
About 20 Chinese experts on railways, ports, airports, transport and roads came to Costa Rica on Sunday and conducted inspections throughout the country as part of a cooperation agreement signed between China and Costa Rica in material infrastructure.
Costa Rica's state-owned bank "Banco Nacional" put in place a trust to build the critical care area of the Children's Hospital.
Authorities are working on the technical specifications of the new complex, known as "Torre de la Esperanza", and expect to have them ready by June. After this, they will invite companies to bid on designing the blueprints of the facility.
The medical facility will open, during the first half of 2011, two new offices in Tibás and Heredia.
Hospital authorities reported that only in medical equipment they have invested $ 1 million, and that the opening of the center in Heredia is planned for March.
"The medical center expansion will continue in 2011 - due to injection of capital made by Monte Cristo Group (owned by the Durman Esquivel family) when it acquired majority of the shares in September 2010," explained El Financiero.
The CCSS received land offers valued between $ 3 and $ 19.5 million for its new hospital in Cartago.
Gabriela Murillo, Infrastructure Manager for the Social Security Fund (CCSS), said the next step is to verify the offers received. She added the decision on which property will take several months.
"In early August, the institution had informed this newspaper they were looking for a property of no less than 15 hectares,” Nacion.com reported.
