The country will have its road network improved in the north and east with a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank.
An IDB press release states:
The program will identify priority areas and carry out road works in order to maximize the economic and social benefits to local people.
"The operation is part of the IDB's efforts to strengthen the transport sector in El Salvador and the infrastructure of its rural roads," said Alfonso Salazar, IDB team leader. "It will be complemented with road safety campaigns and a set of measures to guard against climate change vulnerability. At the same time, it will ensure better access for rural populations to opportunities for employment, health centers, hospitals, schools and markets in an effort to improve their living conditions and reduce poverty. "
The BCIE has approved $340 million loan to the National Highway Council (CONAVI) in Costa Rica to boost its program ‘Strategic Highway Infrastructure Works’.

The Ministry of Public Works has announced a tender for completion of the bypass in Ciudad de Usulutan.

The Ministry of Public Works is putting out to tender the completion of the Usulután City By Pass and construction of the San Isidro Bridge between La Libertad and Chalatenango
As part of the revitalization program of tenders for investments in public works, the Government of El Salvador through the Ministry of Public Works, reported the start of an international tender for the construction and supervision of two major projects: the completion of the By Pass in Ciudad de Usulután and construction of the San Isidro Bridge over the Lempa River, between the departments of La Libertad and Chalatenango.
The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has announced a package of 52 construction projects ready to be offered to companies between September and December this year.

The Minister of Public Works, Gerson Martinez, presented ... at the Presidential Palace a package of works including the construction of sections of highways, rural roads, bridges and protection works of different magnitudes.
The Municipality is going to put out to tender the renewal of the streets ‘Via Argentina’ and ‘Calle Uruguay’.
Without putting an exact figure on the amount to be invested, predictions are in the region of $20 million for Via Argentina and $10 million for Calle Uruguay.
The project includes installing underground cables for lighting and telecommunications, expanding the sidewalks and changing the street furniture.
The Ministry of Public Works has put out to tender the design and construction works for the renovation and widening of the highway between Paso Canoas - Puerto Armuelles.
According to the project description the work consists of the following:
The study, final design and construction for the renovation and widening of the road, which consists of renovation of the existing road surface, placing a layer of concrete-asphalt and the construction of two new lanes parallel to the existing road with flexible pavement, for a total of four lanes. In addition, the project includes the demolition, removal or relocation of obstructions, construction of hard shoulders, asphalt, construction of pedestrian overpasses, construction of vehicular bridges, relocation of public and private utilities, construction and improvements to the drainage system, vertical and horizontal road markings, construction of lay-bys, construction of returns, construction of acceleration and deceleration lanes, improvements to intersections connecting to existing neighborhoods, and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) with the implementation of the measures derived from it, etc.
The Ministry of Public Works has put out a tender for a best value project entitled: "Design and Construction for the renovation and widening of the Paso Canoas-Puerto Armuelles Highway."
The announcement for the design and construction tender was published on the website Panamacompra.go.pa.
The best value tender will be convened this year and be the concession will be granted within a period of not less than 10 calendar days (see Article 31 of Act 22 of 2006, as amended by section 8 of Act 48 of May 10, 2011) for the submission of bids.
The Association of Engineers and Architects has questioned the quality of asphalt being used for road maintenance and construction.
A report by the Panamanian Association of Engineers and Architects (SPIA), "... suggests that the debatable part of the works being carried is the asphalt coating, which is only 5 centimetres thick", reports Prensa.com
Referring to the multi-lane roads, the report notes the presence of defective joints and a variety of surface textures, "The works are not all of superior quality", said the coordinator of the SPIA Road Committee, Gaston Schatan.
The Honduran Ministry of Public Works, Transportation and Housing has put out a tender for resurfacing works on the Olanchito - San Lorenzao road.
According to the specifications, the tender is for the 47km of resurfacing on the Olanchito - San Lorenzo highway, in the Department of Yoro.
Currently the stretch of road between the communities of San Lorenzo and Olanchito has a sub-base, creating poor conditions for traffic due to rainfall in this sector making it very costly to keep the road in optimal conditions.
The Central District Municipality in the capital is investing in projects to repave roads and construct new overpasses.
The announcement was made by Mayor Ricardo Alvarez who referred to the works which include renovation work on the streets of the historic center of Tegucigalpa, construction of an overpass at Hacienda-Suyapa, and expanding the Fuerzas Armadas boulevard to three lanes .
The Road Fund (Fondo Vial) has froze all contracts for repair and maintenance of roads in the country.
So said Alejandro Alvarez, president of the Honduran Chamber of Construction Industry (Chico), who explained that currently there are no contracts for repairs or maintenance, and that the government owes construction companies $48 million.
He added that the Fund does not have the resources to maintain the road network.
The Costa Rican Legislative Assembly has approved a $200 million loan for road infrastructure.
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) loan, is part of a loan package of $850 million, which will be disbursed in installments.
"These resources, which are exclusively for matters relating to road infrastructure, will be used for a second tranche of cantonal road development in a number of towns and roads that have already been established, the projects will be monitored by a unit of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation", published Prensalibre.cr.
5 projects will be developed with $1.5 million, in an attempt to recover the historical center of the Nicaraguan city of Granada.
Funding comes from the Spanish Cooperation, the European Union and the Inter-American Development Bank, and will go to 5 projects that include a street widening project, reconstruction of parks and the construction of a pier.
The Ministry of Public Works has put out to tender the design and construction of roads and vehicular bridges in western Panama.
The works include reconstruction of about 50 kilometers, divided into 6 different roads. Also included is the design and construction of 8 vehicular bridges, between 15 and 100 meters long.
