With an investment of between $20 and $25 million, the Ministry of Public Works is putting out to tender the widening of the stretch of road going from Pozuelo Factory up to the Funeraria Jardines del Recuerdo.
According to Pedro Castro, chief of Public Works and Transport (MOPT), the tender is ready, they're just waiting on resolving an environmental issue and if there are no setbacks the project will be published next week in the La Gaceta.
Ten construction companies and nine service companies attended the pre tender meeting for establishing the specifications for the expansion to four lanes of the Inter American Highway from Veraguas to Viguí.
Prensa.com reports: "This is the first of five sections that the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) is putting out to tender in order to complete the widening to four lanes of the highway between David and Santiago".
The proposed expansion and rehabilitation of 185 kilometers of the Inter-American highway from Veraguas to Chiriqui is being divided into five parts to be tendered separately.
The information was released by the chief of Public Works, Jaime Ford. This amount is $100 million more than the $750 million suggested by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).
Plans are underway for 2013 for the construction of three overpasses in the department of Guatemala.
Q70 million has been allocated by the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV), for the construction of three overpasses in the department of Guatemala next year for easing the traffic flow.

Panama's Colon Free Zone has put out a tender for the extension of its 15th Avenue.
According to the specifications, the tender is for the redevelopment of Avenue 15 in the Colon Free Zone, redesign and construction of the entire telecommunications and electrical infrastructure to convert it to an underground system, and it also includes the relocation of utilities and expansion of the road surface.
The Ministry of Public Works has put out to tender the resurfacing of streets and roads in various provinces as part of a "Paving Your City" Program.
According to the specifications of the tender, the works include paving or resurfacing highways or roads.
The project "Paving Your City" will be undertaken in the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Cocle, Colon, Chiriqui, Darien, Herrera, Los Santos, Panama and Veraguas.
The Ministry of Public Works has announced a program of intensive public works tenders which will run up until December 2011.

As part of the revitalization program of tenders for investments in public works, the Government of El Salvador through the Ministry of Public Works, reported the start of an international tender for the construction and supervision of two major projects: the completion of the By Pass in Ciudad de Usulután and construction of the San Isidro Bridge over the Lempa River, between the departments of La Libertad and Chalatenango.
The Ministry of Public Works has put out to tender the design and construction works for the renovation and widening of the highway between Paso Canoas - Puerto Armuelles.
According to the project description the work consists of the following:
The study, final design and construction for the renovation and widening of the road, which consists of renovation of the existing road surface, placing a layer of concrete-asphalt and the construction of two new lanes parallel to the existing road with flexible pavement, for a total of four lanes. In addition, the project includes the demolition, removal or relocation of obstructions, construction of hard shoulders, asphalt, construction of pedestrian overpasses, construction of vehicular bridges, relocation of public and private utilities, construction and improvements to the drainage system, vertical and horizontal road markings, construction of lay-bys, construction of returns, construction of acceleration and deceleration lanes, improvements to intersections connecting to existing neighborhoods, and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) with the implementation of the measures derived from it, etc.
The Ministry of Public Works has put out a tender for a best value project entitled: "Design and Construction for the renovation and widening of the Paso Canoas-Puerto Armuelles Highway."
The announcement for the design and construction tender was published on the website Panamacompra.go.pa.
The best value tender will be convened this year and be the concession will be granted within a period of not less than 10 calendar days (see Article 31 of Act 22 of 2006, as amended by section 8 of Act 48 of May 10, 2011) for the submission of bids.
As of August, the Ministry of Public Works will be putting out to tender works for the expansion to four lanes of the North American highway between Cañas and Liberia.
The works to be carried out on the stretch of road from Cañas to Liberia, are for a length of 50.610 kilometers (fifty kilometers, six hundred and ten meters), starting at Km 166 +300 (approximately 600 meters before Rio Canas) and ending at Km 216 +910 (approximately 600 meters after Quebrada Piches).
The Road Maintenance Fund (Covial) will invest a total $23 million during 2009 in river dredging and mitigation.
Prensa Libre published: "For now, there are $13 million tendered for work on the Paz, Naranjo, Suchiate, Samalá, Siguacán, Pensivo and Polochic Motagua rivers and on the Chiquimulilla Channel.
The work will be done on the rivers with the most volume in the country with the aim of avoiding disasters in the winter.
