Since no proposals were received, the government has decided to extend until May 31st the receipt of offers in the tender to improve the Belize bridge in Guatemala.
The project, for which no offers were received, consists of repairing the railing including cleaning and painting, renovation of sidewalks, replacement of the road surface, renovation of the concrete slab of the superstructure, renovation of expansion joints, construction of approach slabs, non-destructive tests on structure and concrete elements, replacement of supports in the buttresses, provision, installation and commissioning of two scales for dynamic weighing or WIM (Weighing in Motion) weighing and renovation of the fixed scale located at km 14.5 of the road CA-09 Norte,according tothe tender documents.
In Guatemala, a study is being carried out to determine the most suitable concession and operation model for the new El Cerinal - Barberena road with toll collection.

"The general objective of the consultancy is to support the ANADIE and the CIV in ensuring that the partnership initiative for the development of economic infrastructure 'Maintenance and operation of the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas (El Cerinal) - Barberena, Santa Rosa, Guatemala, with toll collection', start the International Public Tendering scheme, in compliance with the provisions of the Alliances for Economic Infrastructure Development Law.
This year the government plans to allocate $110 million to tenders for works on renovations, cleaning and improvement of roads in different parts of the country.
The plan put forward by the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) is to invest $110 million in the renovation of 10,100 kilometers of roads throughout the country, including street patching, terracing and cleaning.
A tender is being launched in Guatemala for improvements to 12 kilometers of the road between Santiago Atitlan and San Pedro La Laguna, in Solola.

"The section is located in the ruto RD SOL 04 in the town of Panabaj in the municipality of Santiago Atitlan and village of Chicajay, in the municipality of San Pedro La Laguna, with an approximate length of 12 kms. From the Department of Solola, the section currently has deteriorated into rolling dirt therefore this section must be paved with a layer of granular sub base of 20 cm, a base layer of crushed gravel of 15 cms and a layer of asphalt concrete of 7 cm.
Companies from Spain, Peru, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, the Netherlands and Italy took part in the prequalification process to build and operate the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal highway.
The construction firms that participated in the prequalification process were:
1) Consorcio Autopistas de Guatemala (Mexico and Guatemala)
Consideration is being given to granting a concession for the stretch of 15 kilometers of the route from Libramiento to Chimaltenango, which would operate using tolls.
The Government is considering granting a concession to develop this stretch of the road and the company that wins the contract would manage the tolls.The 2017 road renovation plan submitted by the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing includes tendering the construction of several sections of road, for which $221 million is available.
A postponement, to January 6, 2017, has been given for the date of receipt of bids in the tender to renovate and operate a stretch of 40 kilometers of the Puerto Quetzal-Escuintla highway.
The National Association of Alliances for Economic Infrastructure Development (ANADIE) has changed the date for submission of bids after questions arose regarding the basis of pre qualification of some of the companies concerned.
A proposal has been made for the extension of the route to Ciudad Pedro de Alvarado, valued at $280 million and abandoned by the original contractor, to be divided into sections and assigned to local construction companies.
The construction company Sigma, whose legal representative is involved in the State Cooption case has desisted from continuing the work of expanding to four lanes the route to Ciudad Pedro de Alvarado, for which it had been allocated $280 million from a CABEI loan.

An $25 million investment has been announced in four roads in the country including 10 additional kilometers to the Tecpan-Chimaltenango-El Tejar route.
The Government of Guatemala will be investing Q200 million ($25.8 million) in four road projects, said Aldo Garcia Morales, Minister of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV), in remarks published by Agn.com.gt.
In Guatemala the company Overseas Engineering & Construction has been awarded a contract to build the 27-kilometer stretch between Sanarate and El Rancho, on the CA-9 North highway.
The Taiwanese company with multinational presence will be responsible for carrying out the work, after having submitted a financial offer for a total of $123,760,264 in the restricted international tender, announced on November 13, 2015.
Tenders have been launched in Guatemala for maintenance works of the of 44 kilometer section of road between El Estor, Puente Sumache and Río Dulce.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities in Honduras is putting out to tender the construction, expansion and renovation of 86 kilometers of the CA-5 Highway South.
