The Costa Rican Department of Social Security is putting out to tender the supply of 13 thousand units of interferon beta 1-A, from recombinant DNA, 30 UG.

"The Department requires 13,000 units of interferon beta 1-A originating from recombinant DNA, UG 30 (6 million IU / 0.5 ml. Sterile fluid. 1 ml prefilled glass syringe.) "
The private sector has objected to the requirements set by the Insurance Department for the purchase of medicines for $148 million, stating that it will limit the participation of companies and may violate free trade agreements which have been signed.

The Social Security Department is preparing for the end of April the documents for the tender of 514 different types of drugs classified as essential, chronic and not so essential.
This tender will be held in the form of unit price and aims to secure the provision of drugs for one year. The amount of investment has not yet been defined, nor the details of the specifications to be established.
Contracts have been awarded in Guatemala for the supply of oral and perenteral nutrition, contrast media, fluids and electrolytes, and master formulas.
The Ministry of Public Finance awarded 10 companies with contracts to provide 34 types of medical products. The selected companies are Laboratorio Ruipharma, Droguería Colón, Corporación Amicelco, Laboratorio y Droguería Pharmadel, Farmaproyectos, Bodega Farmacéutica, Droguería y Laboratorio Pharmalat, Droguería Refasa, Lavsa and Agencia Farmacéutica Internacional.
The Ministry of Health has announced that it is preparing for the end of January the purchase of medicines worth approximately $23 million.
The strategic plan that the Ministry of Health aims to implement in 2015 not only includes the purchase of medicines but also their distribution and use. It is expected that the process for purchasing and distributing the medicines will be started by the end of this month .
The Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS) has announced that it intends to carry out the process in October in order to begin distributing medicines in November.
The process for the next competition will be held in conjunction with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for around $2.2 million in basic medicines.
A representative from the Intervention Commission at the Honduran Institute of Social Security (IHSS), German Leitzelar, told Elheraldo.hn that "... 'The award will be made this month and this supply, from the company who receives the award, will start to be delivered in November and December to cover a period of eight to twelve months'. "
In Panama the temporary suspension has been ordered of two resolutions which prevented the implementation of the public procurement of medicines and medical and surgical equipment.
Prensa.com reports that "... The action came after the submission of a lawsuit filed by the CSS against the two resolutions issued by the General Directorate of Public Procurement, in which this entity received complaints in two tenders for the purchase of drugs. "
The supervisory committee of the Honduran Institute of Social Security has announced that it is preparing the purchase of medicines for patients with chronic diseases.
Germán Leitzelar, from the oversight committee at the Honduran Institute of Social Security, told Laprensa.hn that "... 'hopefully by the end of August we will be receiving the drugs.'"
The purchase for $6.6 million worth of medicines announced in March has been canceled by the Social Security Department due to complaints by one of the companies participating in the process.
The General Procurement Department received a petition filed by the company Inversiones Tagore, S.A. (Intasa) - one of the 14 companies participating in the tender - in which it is argued that competition and free participation were restricted, because of the establishment of a requirement for applicants to have sold medicines to the Social Security Department (CSS) previously. The company was looking to sell to the CSS generic drugs for patients who have had kidney transplants.

The Guatemalan government has extended until December the term of three contracts for the supply of medical supplies.
