The Central American Bank for Economic Integration approved a $21.4 million extension for the financing of the "Project to Improve the Technical and Operational Capabilities of Puerto Corinto."
This extension brings the total amount guaranteed to $184.6 million, making it the largest investment in the country's port sector in recent decades, informed the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).
The IDB plans to disburse up to $150 million this year to finance road construction and electrification works in areas of the Nicaraguan Caribbean.
Representatives of the entity in Nicaragua explained that the goal is to approve up to $280 million in loans for development works in the country this year.
With a loan from the BCIE, the improvement and renovation of 195 kilometers of roads in different areas of the country will be financed.
The project involves the paving of 194.39 kilometers, divided into six road sections with different asphalt pavement structures, hydraulic concrete and concrete paving slabs.
With a loan from the IDB, new hospitals, health centers and maternity homes will be built and equipped in the departments of Nueva Segovia, Madriz, Estelí, Matagalpa and Jinotega.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a loan of US $133 million to improve the well-being ofNicaraguans, through attention to the main factors that affect health conditions. Likewise, actions are planned to strengthen the quality of customer service, by training Ministry of Health staff.
With funding from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, four bridges will be built on the road linking the municipalities of Rio Blanco and Siuna in the North Caribbean.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport explained that the bridges to be built are Mulukukú, Lisawe, Labú and Prinzapolka, each with a length of 174 meters, 80, 90 and 92 meters, respectively. The bridges will be built on the road that connects the municipalities of Río Blanco and Siuna, in the North Caribbean.
With the two loans approved by the National Assembly of Nicaragua, schools will be built in the Caribbean area and the Juan Pablo II highway will be expanded in Managua.
One of the loans approved by the Assembly is for $55 million, which will be used to build, remodel and expand 45 schools, 20 in the North Caribbean Autonomous Region, five in the South Caribbean Autonomous Region and five in the municipality of Rio San Juan.
The Ortega administration has announced that a donation from the Dutch government will finance part of the construction and equipment of a new hospital in the North Caribbean.
Representatives from the Nicaraguan government explained that the donation is €18.7 million, approximately $21 million.
Elnuevodiario.com.ni reports that "...Rosario Murillo, through official media, explained that"... that donation will be added to aloan of $53 milliongranted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) to finance construction of this new hospital in the North Caribbean. Execution of this project is planned to be carried out in three years, according to the loan contract."
The National Assembly approved the $29 million loan to finance the construction of a 12 kilometer road between El Crucero and the old road to Leon.

The construction of a 12 kilometer stretch of road which will improve the interconnection between El Crucero and the Old road to Leon road will be possible after the unanimous approval this March 21 of a Loan Decree, presented by the Presidency of the Republic to partially finance the implementation of the Road Improvement Project El Boquete - Santa Ana.
Using a loan from the World Bank two access roads to the capital will be built and 46 km of rural roads will be paved.
A statement issued by the World Bank says that "... The Rural and Urban Access Improvement Project proposes the expansion and construction of new roads and the rehabilitation and maintenance of existing ones. "
"... The project includes the construction and expansion of two trunk highways with access to the capital, which will help reduce traffic congestion in an area where a large share of the country’s international transport takes place. "
With a loan from Exim Bank from India approved by the Assembly, new transmission lines and substations will be built in the Autonomous Region of the Southern Caribbean.

In order to support the strengthening and expansion of Nicaragua's electricity transmission system, the National Assembly, at the beginning of the First Regular Session of the Thirty-Third Legislature on February 7, approved a Loan Decree for the financing of the Project to Convert Substation La Esperanza and Transmission line-La Gateada to 138 KV, presented by the Executive.
With a loan from CABEI renovation of the John Paul II runway and the construction of overpasses will be partially financed.

Tegucigalpa January 30, 2017.-The Board of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved a loan of US $105.4 million to the Republic of Nicaragua for the partial financing of "Project for Renovation of the John Paul II Runway and Construction of Overpasses."

The National Assembly unanimously approved the Decree on a Loan to improve the road sections: Malacatoya - Victoria de Julio and Malacatoya- El Palo - El Papayal. The Ortega administration has announced that using financing from the CABEI a 52 kilometer hydraulic concrete highway will be built from Laguna de Perlas and Kukra Hill, in the Caribbean.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) will be for $65 million and will be used for construction of the road.
It has been announced that a court in Brazil has suspended the granting of funds to the project in Nicaragua, arguing that the financial situation of Eletrobras does not justify making an investment abroad.
A precautionary measure approved by Tribunal de Cuentas de la Unión(TCU), the watchdog of use of state resources in Brazil, has suspended the transfer of resources which had been allocated to Eletrobras for the construction, in consortium with the construction firm Queiroz y Galvao, of the Tumarín hydroelectric station in Nicaragua.
