After PowerChina in Costa Rica won the contract to expand a section of highway in Guanacaste, one of the participating consortia appealed the results, arguing that the requirements had been modified in the tender.
The road work awarded to PowerChina in 2018 consists of a total of 50 kilometers, distributed in two tenders, one for the San Gerardo-Limonal section and the other for the Barranca-San Gerardo section. For the first four companies submitted tenders and the contract was awarded on October 25, while for the second there were seven proposals and the contract was awarded on December 10.

With a loan from the IDB, plans are underway to carry out road renovation works on the cantonal road network, especially in the areas affected by storm Nate in 2017.
For the 61 projects in the first stage of PRVC II, the MOPT estimates holding approximately 12 tenders, each of which will include between four and five projects. As part of a second stage, around 64 projects will be worked on, which correspond to about 41 million dollars and are currently in the analysis phase.

Rejecting the arguments put forward by three participants bidding for the construction work, the Comptroller has endorsed the contracts awarded to MECO, Hernán Solís and Quebradores del Sur.
The contract awarded to Constructora MECO is for $116 million, for Hernan Solis $76 million, and for Quebradores del Sur it is for more than $14 million. The timeframe for maintenance of the national road network is four years. The works must start within a maximum period of 15 working days.

The Ministry of Public Works will invest $12 million on building extra lanes, changing roads and traffic lights in areas of the metropolitan area with high road congestion.
The works aim to minimize traffic congestion problems in 22 areas where there is the most road congestion in the greater metropolitan area, and according to officials from the Ministry of Public Works (MOPT), this plan of "fast works" will start in the second half 2016.
