The Ministry of Transport and Public Works will put the works out to tender at the end of the first quarter of 2014.

"By signing an addendum to the voluntary agreement between the Association Council for Real Estate Development (CODI) and the National Council for Roads (Conavi) there will be an extension to 5 -lanes of the ring road Santa Ana- Belen two kilometers long, and 4 bridges located on this highway in which an investment of $34 million is estimated to be carried out. The first phase of work will involve the relocation of utilities and will start next January in order to have the necessary space to allow extending the lanes.
The condition of the bridges over which 80% of exports pass is disastrous and is seriously affecting the country’s productivity.
Elfinancierocr.com reports that "Years of neglect and delayed attention have affected the 1330 bridges in the national road network. This is shaking the foundations of enterprise."
An example of the severity of the problem is the list of bridges which because of their poor condition are damaging logistics for export products, raising costs of such and causing delays.
The new Minister of Public Works has acknowledged decades of delays in maintaining the country’s bridges, and has announced a tender for repairs and maintenance.
Minister Castro enlisted the help of the National Laboratory of Materials and Structural Models of the University of Costa Rica (LANAMME), to ensure the technical validity of the tender to be convened for the repair of bridges on roads which are vital to the country.
The 362 meter bridge above the San Juan river will streamline the transit of goods and create opportunities for the development of new logistics routes.
Construction of the bridge, which is being backed by Japan, should be finished by mid 2014.
An article in El Pueblo Presidente reports, "... agricultural producers expect to decrease their operating costs on exports to Puerto Rico and the United States.
The government intends to give priority to a new bridge on the main road linking the capital with the Juan Santamaria Airport, to be built by the current contractor for the expansion of that road.
Edwin Rodriguez, technical secretary of the National Concessions Council (CNC in Spanish), said they are in the process of negotiating with the concessionaire of the 59 km highway, the Brazilian OAS, in order to give priority to the construction of the bridge.
The Road Safety Council of Costa Rica is putting out to tender, at a value of $2 million, the design and construction of pedestrian bridges.
The purpose of this tender is to hire a person or entity with technical and financial capacity to perform geometric, architectural and structural designs (including the preparation of construction drawings) and the construction of pedestrian bridges on several domestic routes.
The National Roads Authority of Costa Rica is inviting bids for the supply of metal modular portable truss (Bailey) bridges, according to demand.
The National Roads Authority (CONAVI) via its Proveeduría Institucional, is inviting companies interested in participating in the Public Tender 2012LN-000004-0CV00, for the "Provision of metal modular portable truss (Bailey) Bridges, according to demand.”
The National Roads Authority of Costa Rica has created a tender for hiring Conservation Road Managers for the National Road Network across the country.
According to the specifications of the tender:
Road managers will perform, as a minimum, the activities listed below, in order to fully achieve the goals of the contract.
-Actively participate in risk prevention and attention to emergencies which occur in the domestic network.
Evaluation has begun for the award of a contract to build new bridges on the Interamericana Norte Highway, Costa Rica.
The project envisages construction of 18 bridges each having two lanes, on Route 1 between Cañas and Liberia.
Applicants include the companies Consorcio Guanacaste, Codocsa S.A., FCC Construcción de Centroamérica, Constructora Sánchez Carvajal, Constructora Meco and Consorcio Sogeosa-Intec, said the director of the National Roads Authority (Conavi), Carlos Acosta, who also confirmed that the evaluation stage has now started.
The works comprise the renovation of road surfaces, and construction of bridges and storm drains on major routes in the area.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) and the National Roads Authority (CONAVI) has intensified repair works on road surfaces and bridge building on major roads in the Southern Zone, where it has invested a total of ¢13.448 million ($ 27 million) from the Road Fund.
With an investment of $30 million, construction has begun on the 360 meter bridge which connects Nicaragua to Costa Rica by road.

The 360-meter bridge over the Rio San Juan connects Nicaragua to Costa Rica. Construction of the bridge has begun and is being managed by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The National Highway Council has put out to tender for the construction of 18 bridges on National Highway No. 1, the North American Highway.
The purpose of the tender is to contract out the projects and the execution of the corresponding works on the North American Road, Section Cañas - Liberia, National RouteNo. 1 which includes:
a) Construction of 18 new bridges, of 2 (two) lanes each
The Ministry of Public Works (MOPT in Spanish) has announced the construction of a new four lane bridge alongside the old bridge, which has structural problems, on one of the most important routes in the country.
The busy route between San José - Alajuela, fell into chaos several times due to ineffective repairs to the bridge that connects the road to the General Cañas Highway.
The Ministry of Transport and Public Works is to go out to tender for the construction of an important stretch of road in the north of the country.
The aim of the tender process is to contract an experienced national or international company to carry out highway construction works on a section of "National Route No. 4", located in a popular tourist area 60km north of the capital.
