Using the Pura Vida Wellness concept, Costa Rica intends to take advantage of a global market valued at $563 billion, with tourists whose average spending exceeds 130% of global average tourist spending.
The aim of the Costa Rican Institute is to develop this segment, which has great market potential, in order to diversify and consolidate the country's tourism supply.Global wellness tourism grew by 11% between 2013 and 2015, according to data from Global Wellness Tourism Economy.
Companies in the sector and the Guatemalan Tourism Institute are working on a proposal for rules for adventure tourism businesses in the country.

Guatemala November 10, 2016.Given the need to regulate and control all activities related to the adventure tourism segment, private public entities have initiated a regulatory process, forming the Technical Committee on Adventure.
Tourism companies are being called on to take part in Expotur on May 11th- 13th at the Centro Kolbi Parque Viva, in Alajuela.

The bill being presented seeks to promote rural community tourism by granting concessions on the islands in the Gulf of Nicoya for up to 35 years.
In order to promote the social, economic and ecotourism development of the islands in Costa Rica's Gulf of Nicoya, a bill presented recently to the country's congress recommends establishing concessions to be awarded as a priority to Costa Rican's living on the islands in possession of the appropriate papers and permits from the local municipal government.
