In Colombia a system has been developed to instantly measure coffee moisture, which they are adapting to silos and grain drying sites.

In the Cup of Excellence auction the average price paid for the 24 lots of specialty coffee on offer was $9.17, while the maximum price was $25.80 per pound.
As in the 2014 auction, first place was obtained by the farm El Injerto, from the department of Huehuetenango. For the lot from this farm an international buyer paid $35.80 a pound.

It has been indicated that deductions and taxes incurred by coffee farmers is the reason for smuggling of the grain to neighboring countries.
According to an article on Laprensa.hn Emilio Medina, manager of the export company Beneficio de Café Montecristo, "... taxes and deductions applied to each hundredweight of coffee exported combined with low grain prices in the international market have led to increased smuggling of the aromatic to Guatemala and Nicaragua ... This traffic of coffee to neighboring countries has affected the volume of shipments and foreign exchange. "
Good grain inventory levels globally have kept prices relatively stable and low in April.

Coffee exports from Brazil reached a record level of 36.8 million bags in crop year 2014/15 (April-March), driven by domestic stocks and favored by a depreciation in the exchange rate. Machines for preparing individual portions of coffee made popular by Keurig Green Mountain Inc. are currently being used by one in four Americans and are changing coffee consumption patterns.
Forty-nine samples qualified for the national competition, which will be used to select entrants in the international auction, the Cup of Excellence, to be held from 4 to 8 May.
Of the 117 samples that were received in the preselection stage, 49 were classified with a minimum score of 85 points. It is expected that the international auction of the winning samples will be carried out on July 1 over the Internet from Anacafé's facilities.
