The Guatemalan government signed an agreement so that after a mission from the U.S. Federal Aviation Agency conducts an audit, a roadmap will be drawn up for the Central American country to be certified as a category 1.
The plans are for the U.S. Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) to evaluate the country's legislation, regulation, organization, personnel training, guides and manuals, certification and licensing, surveillance and sanctions, and aviation environment. After this inspection, a proposal will be formulated for the accreditation of Guatemala.
The low-cost airline Wingo announced that as of April 28 it will begin operating a direct flight twice a week between the capitals of Panama and Peru.
The new route, which will have tickets available on Tuesdays and Saturdays, will be operated by 737-800 NG aircraft with capacity for 186 passengers, company officials said.
The low-cost airline Sun Country announced that between June and August 2020 it will operate a weekly flight between the U.S. city of Dallas and the province of Guanacaste in Costa Rica.
The operation will begin on Saturday 13 June and end on Saturday 15 August. The flight will depart at 8 a.m. from Dallas Fort Worth Airport and arrive at Daniel Oduber Quirós at 11:05 a.m.
Starting from September this year Spirit Airlines will fly three times and four times a week from La Aurora Airport to Houston, and Orlando, respectively.
In a statement, the Guatemalan Tourism Institute explained that "... As of September 7, Spirit will fly from Guatemala to Houston three times a week and from November 8, 4 times a week, for this route it will use an A319 crew with capacity for 145 passengers.
The Mexican airline Volaris will be suspending its services as of July 1, and the luxury resort hotel Mukul, in Guacalito, has announced the indefinite closure of its operations.
The crisis that has been going on in the country for the last month continues to harm the tourism business sector.The airline Volaris reported that it will temporarily suspend services to Managua from next week, and the luxury hotel Mukul Auberge Resorts Collection, in the South Pacific, announced on Friday that it will close its operations indefinitely.
As of October of this year, Spirit Airlines will start flying four times a week between Juan Santamaría International Airport and Orlando International Airport in the United States.
The Costa Rican Tourism Institute announced that flights will now be made four times a week, and as of November 8, the frequency will be daily.
Until November 6 of this year Wamos Air will operate one frequency per week between Guatemala and the European country.

Guatemala, May 29, 2018.After the success and the good reception by the Spanish and Guatemalan market, the flight season started today on the Madrid-Varadero-Guatemala route and vice versa, with a weekly frequency on Tuesdays which will conclude on November 6, 2018.The equipment to be used is a Boeing 747-400 aircraft with a total capacity of 529 seats, 12 of them in executive class and 517 seats in tourist class.
To avoid the company leaving Panama, Tocumen has proposed Viva Colombia to move its operation to Colón airport and to reduce to $10 the airport fee.
Arguing that this would benefit the airline company, authorities at Tocumen reported that they sent a proposal to executives of the airline Viva Colombia, to move their operations to the terminal Enrique Jiménez de Colón.
Citing high operating costs and the increase in the airport tax, the low cost airline VivaColombia has announced that it will stop flying between Panama and the cities of Bogotá and Medellin.
Through a statement, the airline reported that "... VivaColombia, the first low cost airline in the country, announces that it will cancel its Bogota-Panama-Bogotá and Medellín-Panama-Medellín routes as of May 20, 2018. This decision is made taking into account the high operating costs and the increase in the airport tax which went from $15 to $35, representing an increase of 135%."
The airline Wamos has announced that as of May the weekly frequency between the capital of Spain and Guatemala City will once again be operational, until at least November 2018.

Guatemala March 1, 2018. Following the success and good reception of the air route by the Spanish and Guatemalan markets, executives at the airline WAMOS Air, together with INGUAT authorities, announced the reopening of the Madrid-Guatemala route on May 29.
With the arrival of more flights to the two main airports in Costa Rica, complementary businesses such as car rental and air catering services are benefitting.
In order to meet the increased demand generated by an increase in the arrival of flights and new airlines coming to the airports Daniel Oduber, in Liberia, and Juan Santamaría, in Alajuela, companies that provide complementary services are making new investments to expand their production capacity and improve the quality of their services.For example, several rent-a-car companies have invested in improving andexpanding their vehicle fleet.
The airline has announced that starting from December 2016 it will be operating two direct weekly flights between Panama City and Roatan Island.
The flights will depart from Panama City during the peak season in 2016-2017 on Thursdays and Sundays, and tickets will be available for sale from November 1st.
Eduardo Stagg, CEO of the airline, told Laestrella.com.pa that"...'This is the first time we are running a direct flight to Roatan, making the destination accessible to our customers'."
It has been announced that from October 5 the number of weekly flights between La Aurora and Los Altos in Quetzaltenango will increase to four.
The Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT) has reported that increasing demand on the part of passengers using Aero Ruta Maya(ARM) led to the decision to increase the number of frequencies it operates between the capital and the tourist destination Xela, from three to four.
CM Airlines has announced that it will operate a weekly flight from Tegucigalpa to the aerodrome of Tela and from there to Roatan, plus two others to Copan and Gracias in Lempira.
Flights arriving at the airfield in Tela, inaugurated in May 2015, will depart from there to Roatan Island, along with the two other flights that CM Airlines plans to operate from Tegucigalpa to Copan and Gracias.
Nature Air has announced that it will now fly twice daily between Costa Rica and Nicaragua, in order to meet the growing demand on that route.
The high demand of passengers between Nicaragua and Costa Rica has encouraged the airline Nature Air to raise the number of daily flights between San Jose and Managua to two (one in the day and one at night).
