Improvements to Liberia's international airport in Guanacaste, with a $95 million investment, is the most important project the Costa Rican government plans to carry out in the next four years.
The Ministry of Public Works (Mopt) informed that the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport will receive a $95 million investment for the 2020-2024 period, in work to improve the taxiway, the reconstruction of the entire runway of almost 3 km in length, the reconstruction of the electrical system and expansions, which will involve more expropriations. This is one of the main investments, of the $160 million invested, in execution or to be allocated to local airports and aerodromes.
Alejandro Giammattei, president-elect of Guatemala, announced that during his mandate the administration of the country's airports will be handed over to the municipalities.
The plans of the president-elect, who is due to take office on Jan. 14, 2020, are to hand over the administration of several airports to mayors who have commercial airstrips within their municipalities.
According to the Guatemalan airline guild, it is necessary to modernize the infrastructure of La Aurora International Airport by expanding the southern taxiway, but in the study of the project it is proposed to begin with work on the northern runway.

Afredo Fonseca Mora, director of the AAC, explained to Prensa.com that "..."The first thing we must resolve is the transfer of an area that is located at the end of the track, which is used by the community for sports activities, a situation that shouldnt be happening because it is within the safety perimeter of the air terminal."
The Mexican company Caabsa Constructora will be in charge of the expansion of the passenger terminal at Monsenor Óscar Romero international airport in El Salvador.
The award was announced by the Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA) at a press conference held at the Presidential House in San Salvador.

Panama City airport authorities have started negotiating to buy the land needed to build a third runway and a passenger terminal.
The formal process for acquiring properties began with discussions with the owners of the six plots of interest to Tocumen S.A., all of different sizes and which together total some 800 hectares.Carlos Duboy, manager of Tocumen, explained that they presented a possible payment scheme that includes a portion in cash and another in exchange of state lands in other parts of the country.
The four consortiums made up of companies from Spain, Mexico and Colombia presented their proposals in the tender to prepare a feasibility study to modernize the airport in Guatemala City.

Construction of four new boarding gates, a taxiway and expanding the lobby are some of the investment projects that the concessionaire of Juan Santamaria airport plans to carry out between 2017 and 2019.
The company granted the concession for running Juan Santamaria International Airport in Costa Rica, has announced that $100 million will be invested over a period of two years in various works at the terminal, which will be completed by January 2020.
The opening of bids for analyzing the feasibility of modernizing the Guatemala City airport has been suspended until doubts held by participating companies have been clarified.

Work will begin in January 2017 at the Daniel Oduber airport in Guanacaste making possible a 20% increase in capacity at the terminal.

In the early days of January 2017 redevelopment works will start at Daniel Oduber International Airport, which will be completed in November of that year.Using an investment of $10.3 million, the new facility will have the capacity to receive passengers until 2023, confirmed César Jaramillo, general manager of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (CORIPORT), the concessionaire in charge of the administration of the terminal company.
The new parking platform raises to 22 the number of aircraft that can be attended to simultaneously at the international airport in San Salvador.
Elsalvador.com reports that "...The work represents the first expansion project with a direct impact on customer service for passenger aircraft at San Salvador International Airport in the last 18 years and will be crucial in improving its operational capacity."
In order to remain competitive Panama City airport needs to further expand its operating capacity, and is already working on the acquisition of surrounding land.
The funds to finance the project to construct a third runway will come from the dividends expected to be generated by the terminal with the granting of duty free premises whose tender is scheduled for 2017.
Tocumen is preparing a plan to tender several expansion works and equipment at the airfields of Panama Pacific, David, Colon and Rio Hato.
One of the regional airports where Tocumen plans to invest in order to improve its functionality is Panama Pacific, which is projected to double capacity of the terminal in order to handle five flights simultaneously instead of two, increasing the number of airline counters from 3 to 7 and improving the waiting area for departing passengers and the migration area.
