The Council of the SUTEL has declared to be under effective competition the following markets: International Telephony, Fixed Internet, International Roaming and Telecommunications Transit.
The Superintendency of Telecommunications postponed until the first quarter of 2017 the decision on a possible declaration of effective competition in mobile postpaid services.

General Development of Sector
Five years after the adoption of the General Telecommunications Law, No. 8642, evaluation of sector performance shows positive results in revenue, investment, employment, population coverage and diversification of telecommunications services.
The company is awaiting authorities to assign the numbers in order to begin marketing.
Raul Ibanez, manager of Amnet Costa Rica, said that for international calls the company promises improved rates and for calls between Amnet residential users the price will be minimal.
"With this new service we want to consolidate our leadership in the country by being the first company to offer three services: broadband internet, digital television and telephone " Ibanez told Nacion.com.
Costa Rican company Intertel launched a VoIP card intended for travelers, dubbed "Traveler".
Francisco Guardia, Intertel's president, considers that the main benefit of the card is its price. With it, users can call to Costa Rica from United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
