The SAT has extended until September 19 the deadline for the exemption of 90% of fines, interest and surcharges for taxpayers, whether natural or legal.
The tax amnesty announced by the Superintendency of Tax Administration in May of this year and which was to have a term of three months, has been extended for 30 more days, until September 19.
Complaints have been made that there is not a clear and complete record of the number of companies benefiting from special tax regimes.
It is estimated that there are approximately 3,000 taxpayers who fall under the tax exemptions regime, either totally or partially. However, this data has not been confirmed by the Superintendency of Tax Administration, even though it had to submit its first report in 2014, according to the rule which came into effect in November 2013.
In order to encourage investment in the country, starting from this fiscal year income tax paid by taxpayers registered in the regime on profits will be reduced from 28% to 25%.
According to the latest amendment of the Law on Tax Update, Decree 10-2012, the rate of income tax (ISR) applied to taxpayers from 2015 will be 25%. The authorities clarified that the rate of 28% will be applied to taxpayers who have not yet completed the liquidation of 2014

A waiver of fines, interest and penalties will apply starting June 12th and will run for 90 days for all taxpayers, both natural or legal persons.
Government Agreement No. 174-2014 published in Diario de Centroamérica:
"Article 7. Transient. Regularization. Taxpayers from the term of this Agreement, who elect to regularize operations or modify the method of recording costs and expenses, under this agreement, though the application of the special treatment provided therein and who owe taxes or formal sanctions, may enjoy exemptions from penalties, interest or surcharges in the method set out in this article. "
The amnesty includes those who owe taxes for tax periods prior to 1 January 2012.
S21.com.gt reports that "this measure is complementary to the cancellation of 10% in tax payments and 50% reduction in the circulation tax".

President Otto Perez Molina will not grant exemptions from fines imposed by the Tax Authority.
An article in Elperiodico.com.gt reports that "The President has asked the General Secretariat of the President to address the 202 cases presented by businessmen, politicians and figureheads."
