As a result of the health and economic crisis affecting the country, the government decided to cut the budget assigned to municipalities by $71 million to finance maintenance work on the cantonal road network.
Due to the spread of covid-19, the country is going through a crisis that is reflected in the drop in economic activity, which in April 2020 registered a -9.3% year-on-year variation in its monthly index.
During 2018, 88 environmental impact studies were presented for projects to rehabilitate streets, build roads and bridges in Central American countries.

The government of Costa Rica has authorized the execution of resources for the road renovation of 270 km of roads and drainage systems starting in the first half of 2019.
The Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy (Mideplan) approved the execution of the second stage of the Cantonal Road Infrastructure Program (PRVC II), which should be implemented in five years through 110 projects that will improve 270.8 km of cantonal roads and drainage systems.
With a loan from the IDB, plans are underway to carry out road renovation works on the cantonal road network, especially in the areas affected by storm Nate in 2017.
For the 61 projects in the first stage ofPRVC II, the MOPT estimatesholding approximately 12 tenders, each of which will include between four and five projects. As part of a second stage, around 64 projects will be worked on, which correspond to about 41 million dollars and are currently in the analysis phase.
In Costa Rica companies are being called on to participate in the tender for the renovation and cleaning of roads that were affected by tropical storm Nate.
The National Emergency Commission needs more construction companies to register and participate in the contracting processes to carry out the recovery works on roads and highways affected by the storm.
The municipality of Buenos Aires, in Puntarenas, will be allocating $7 million for the purchase of twelve machines and materials to carry out asphalting works in different sections of the canton.

In Costa Rica a contract has been awarded to Consorcio Grupo Orosi for asphalting work in El Guarco, Cartago.
The company winning the tender will be in charge asphalting services in the municipality of El Guarco, for a total of $13.7 million, according to the Construction Project Service at Central CentralAmericaData.
The National Roads Authority of Costa Rica is inviting companies to submit expressions of interest for the predesign of three road rehabilitation works.

The National Roads Authority has published in the Official Newspaper, La Gaceta, an invitation to consultancy firms to submit expressions of interest so that a short list can be made for the preliminary design of the renovation of 93 km of road going from Palmar Norte to Paso Canoas on the Interamerican Highway.
"Llanos de Santa Lucía", a project to be developed in "Paraíso de Cartago", will improve in road infrastructure and services.
This plan, part of the National Program for Shanty Town Eradication, includes the reconstruction of roads and the construction of a rain water evacuation system, sidewalks, playgrounds and recreational areas.
This project will be managed by the Costa Rica - Canada Foundation and will work with resources from the government program mentioned above.
