It has been reported that the government has reactivated licensing for the export of one million hundredweight of red beans to El Salvador.
The Ministry of Economic Development (SDE) has authorized the re-granting of licenses for export because a harvest of 3 million hundredweight of red beans has been forecast, two million of which will go to the domestic market and the rest can be sold.
The government has set maximum prices that may be marketed, for the next 30 days, on fifteen basic food products, including pork, eggs, beans and coffee.
The Ministry of Economic Development has classified the most consumed products at this time of year in order to avoid increases and maintain price stability. The measure takes effect from today in all markets in Honduras.
Without the backing of producers, manufacturers are negotiating with the government permission to import 25,000 tonnes of duty free rice.
Although producers claim that local production is enough to meet domestic demand, the industry has asked the government to issue formal authorization before September in order to proceed with the purchase.
