Millicom CAM SEM, S.A. and Upfield NL Holdings Two B.V., were the companies that were recently established as Multinational Companies Headquarters in the country.

MICI 13-08-2019. The Commission of Headquarters of Multinational Enterprises (SEM) of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI) recently approved the establishment of two new multinationals in the country, after complying with all the requirements set forth in the Law.
The number of companies in operation which have 10 or more workers decreased from 7,618 in March 2017 to 7,571 in December of the same year.
Figures from the "National Survey of Companies 2017" by the National Institute of Statistics and Census indicate that between the first quarter and the last quarter of last year, the number of private companies registered a small variation of almost 1%.
Of the almost 38 thousand companies registered in the country, only 6% export some kind of product or service, while 15% import, among which are those in the fields of manufacturing and commerce.
The Directory of Companies and Establishments 2017 (DEE) of the National Institute of Economy and Censuses (INEC) details, among other data, the business category and the activity to which the companies in the country are dedicated.
Reports state that in 2017 the registration of mercantile companies in Guatemala grew 10% compared to 2016.
Figures from the Mercantile Registry (RM by its initials in Spanish) also detailed that the registration of individual traders grew by 9.3% with respect to 2016.Dca.gob.gt reports that "...On the other hand, 3 thousand companies closed down, a figure that exceeded 2,040 two years ago."
Between January and July, 43,000 new companies were registered, 19% more than in the same period in 2016, when 36,000 companies were registered.
Figures from the General Mercantile Registry of Guatemala (RMG) show that "from January to July, 43,130 individual traders, mercantile companies, national and foreign companies were registered, while in 2016 36,133 were registered, that is to say 6,997 less."
From January there will be a fall of up to 50% in rates for registry services for the registration of assets, rights and guarantees for SMEs.
The National Assembly approved the rates for public registrations in the national registration system, which will take effect on January 1, 2016.
"... With the reform, the productive sector, mainly agriculturalists, will pay 50 percent less than what they are currently paying for the registration and paying down their mortgages and their collateral. "
In the first four months of the year 18,000 new businesses were registered with the Commercial Register , 13% more than in the same period in 2014.
The number of new companies entered into the Mercantile Registry between January and April this year exceeds that of the same period in 2014, when 16,389 were registered.
Businessmen in Costa Rica recognize the progress made by the government, but are calling for an acceleration in the process to eliminate the duplication of paperwork which still prevails in several institutions.
Currently we have a clear agenda to deal with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry regarding outstanding issues and the reduction in the number of requirements for starting a business and those for established businesses.
The number of companies and sole traders registered in the Commercial Registry in January grew by 46% compared to the same month in 2014, a year in which a decrease of 3% was recorded.
In January 2015 2.289 companies were registered, 720 more than the 1,569 reported in the same month of 2014. Also last month 1,311 individual traders were registered, exceeding the 899 for the same period last year.
An announcement has been made that as of October 24th all registration formalities in the registry may be made electronically through a new platform.

In order to optimize the services offered to users and the general public, the Public Registry of Panama, within the framework of modernization, will run the Registry Electronic Registration System (CRS), a new technology platform that will provide greater legal certainty over private property and other rights on goods which are registered with the entity.
Guatemala has presented a bill to reform the Code of Commerce to reduce the time to it takes for registering a business from 20 to 3 days.

Companies with under $38 billion in capital will be able to register without paying duty to the Register of Commerce.
The Register of Commerce has also reduced the number of steps needed to open a new business, reducing the time from 17 to 13 days.
