In the eighth month of the year, the unit of the polarized box outlet in Panama grew 10% over August 2018, and the foot of stranded electric cable No. 12 increased 6%.

The average from January to August 2019, compared to the same period in 2018, showed increases in the Indexes of the current collector unit for polarized box in 12.1%, the foot of the Carriola N°4 in 4.2% and the foot of Zinc N°26 galvanized corrugated in 3.7%. Likewise, there were increases in the IP of the yard of Stone No. 4 in 1.9% and the one of the yard of Sand in 1.8%.
The prices of construction materials in Nicaragua have reported increases in recent months, but because of the crisis in which the country finds itself, businessmen have chosen to assume these costs and not pass them on to customers.
In Guatemala, during the first five months of the year, the price of 6 meter long square industrial tube increase 5%, and in the case of tubular brick, it dropped 4%.
The Construction Materials Price Index (IPMC), carried out by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), measures the price variations of the eighty-nine (89) materials and services that make up the basket of inputs that are used in the construction activity, using December 2018 = 100.0 as base month.
In the fourth month of the year, the price of the polarized box socket in Panama grew 12% over April 2018, and the stranded electric cable foot decreased 6%.
The accumulated average from January to April 2019, compared to the same period of 2018, showed increases in the Indexes of the current collector unit for polarized box in 12.9%, the foot of Carriola N°4 in 7.9% and the foot of Zinc N°26 corrugated galvanized in 4.6%, informed the General Comptroller of the Republic.
During the first quarter of the year, the price of 16-gauge steel wire increased 10% with respect to the previous year, and in the case of tubular brick, it decreased 3%.

In the last two years, the downward trend in construction has been a constant, and in the first two months of 2019 the cost of new construction, additions and repairs fell 19% over the same period in 2018.
The most recent report of the General Comptroller of the Republic details that only in February of this year the cost of new constructions, additions and repairs totaled $92 million, which is equivalent to 134 thousand m2 of constructed area.
The costs of wood and roofs, and metals and derivatives, explained during the second month of the year the 10% year-on-year increase in the prices of construction materials in Nicaragua.
The statistics of the Price Index of Construction Materials (IPMC) corresponding to February 2019, indicate that the IPMC registered a 9.6% year-on-year growth regarding the same month of the previous year, variation greater than the 8.4% reported in February 2018, informed the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN).
In the second month of the year, the price of 16-gauge steel wire rose 3% with respect to January 2018, and in the case of 22-gauge sheet steel, it fell 4%.

The average accumulated behavior from January to February 2019, compared to the same period of 2018, showed increases in the Price Indexes (IP) of the electric current collector unit for polarized socket in 12.7%, the foot of the Carriola N°4 in 8.5% and the foot of Zinc N°26 galvanized corrugated in 4.6%, informed the General Comptroller of the Republic.
Consistent with the trend of the last two years, in the first month of 2019 the cost of new construction, additions and repairs fell 39% compared to January 2018.
The most recent report of the General Comptroller of the Republic details that in January of this year the cost of new constructions, additions and repairs totaled $71 million, and the number of projects for which construction permits were granted was 998.

Consistent with the downward trend reported since the beginning of last year in Panama, during 2018 the cost of new construction, additions and repairs fell 39% compared to 2017.
Data from the General Comptroller of the Republic detail that the performance of the construction sector in 2018 was negative, since the cost of new constructions, additions and repairs totaled $1.311 million, a figure lower than the $2.144 million reported in 2017.
In the Dominican Republic, between November 2018 and the same month in 2017, the Index of Direct Costs of Housing Construction registered a 10% increase.

In November 2018, the Index of Direct Costs of Housing Construction (ICDV) was 155.90, increasing by 0.88%, mainly because of increases in the prices of subcontracts (3.95%) and tools (0.78%).
From January to December 2018, in Panama the price of the 30-foot stretches of steel rod increased 13%, and the unit of the polarized socket increased 5%.
The report of the General Comptroller of the Republic notes that "... The average accumulated behavior from January to December 2018, with respect to the same period in 2017, presented increases in the Price Indexes (IP) of the 30-foot section of the "½" steel rod by 12.7%, of the current collector unit for polarized box by 5.3% and of the foot of Stranded electric cable N°12 by 3.2%.
