The National Port Authority in its capacity as Settlor and the Trustee COALIANZA, in its capacity as Settlor and Banco Atlántida in its capacity as Trustee, signed on 15 May of 2012 a Trust Agreement of Directors for a period of 30 years for structuring, project Development and Promotion of the bulk terminal of Puerto Cortes.
The Brazilian construction company Andrade Gutierrez has retired from the Monkey Point project, and the government of Nicaragua recognizes that "it is not easy to make it happen."
An article in Prensa.com.ni reports that "The prefeasibility and feasibility studies made by Andrade Gutierrez have revealed that the construction cost per kilometer of the port would be about two million dollars, according to information provided to the press.

San Jose, Costa Rica – The Costa Rican courts ruled today in favor of APM Terminals in two lawsuits, brought against the company and the government, which were intended to block the awarded concession for the new Moin Container Terminal (TCM). “Today’s favorable decision from the Second Circuit Court in San Jose affirms the transparency and legality of the concession process.
APM Terminals has signed a concession contract for 32 years to build and operate a container terminal with an investment of $900 million.
The start of construction is scheduled for September. This first stage, at a cost of $300 million, should be completed in 2015.
"The company said, through a statement, that they have signed a concession for 32 years with the Port Authority of Lazaro Cardenas (APILAC) for the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of a new and specialized terminal", reported Americaeconomia.com.
Cruise operators have informed the government of Panama about their interest in investing $30 million in order to build a cruise terminal on the Amador Causeway.
The concession would be awarded for a period of 20 years, renewable for another 20 years, and would be for the operation of a port to be built on the Amador Causeway, near the Balboa Yacht Club.

The Honduran Council of Ministers has approved a draft decree relating to a trust agreement for the structuring, development and financing of the operation of the bulk cargo terminal at Puerto Cortes.

The Council of Ministers, of the government of President Porfirio Lobo Sosa , approved the draft decree on Tuesday relating to a trust agreement for the structuring, development and financing of the operation of a bulk cargo terminal at Puerto Cortes, at the request of the National Commission for the Promotion of Public-Private Partnerships (COALIANZA).
The National Tender Board (CNC in Spanish) has notified the company APM Terminals which has a maximum of 18 months to begin the construction of the new Moin Container Terminal (MCT), in the Caribbean, Costa Rica.
After the deadline, APT Terminals has 36 months to complete the works on this terminal which will allow servicing and boarding of container vessels.
The bank will arrange for a team of advisers who will structure an international tender to award works for modernizing the port.
After calling a tender, the official body Coalianza has chosen Honduran Banco Financiera Comercial SA (Ficohsa) as trustee bank and arranger of the modernization project of Puerto Cortes.
Using the mechanism of Public Private Partnership (PPP), Ficohsa, as trustee and arranger, is responsible for hiring a team of consultants (independent companies) in the technical, economic, financial, socio-real estate, environmental and legal fields, which together with Coalianza will create the documents entitled the "Project" and "International public tender to modernize the port facility", reports Elheraldo.hn.
Americas Gateway Development Corporation, the company that won the tender for the design, will start work on detailing the technical, environmental, commercial and financial studies.
Aubrey Young, CEO of Americas Gateway Development Corporation (Amega), noted that they estimate about twelve months for this stage.
An article in BNamericas reports that, "the transfer terminal will have capacity to mobilize 2 million TEUs a year with a 1km pier, an access channel leading to the port of Moin with a depth of 19m and berths for three container ships of about 14,000 TEUs.
The proposed new Panama Tourism Act includes incentives for the construction of maritime infrastructure and activities related to nautical tourism.
"If the new tourism legislation is approved, companies making a minimum investment of $10 million in construction, equipment and cruise port administration will be entitled to a total exemption for five years on import duties for input materials for the construction of marine infrastructure," reports Prensa.com.
The Deputy Administrator of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP in Spanish) has announced a plan to create a concession for a container port in Corozal.
The project, announced by Jose Barrios, Deputy Administrator of the ACP, is based on Panama’s advantages as a a focal point for international maritime routes, fueled by the ongoing expansion of the Canal.
Modernisation is needed in order to regain competitiveness, says the Honduran private sector.
The President of the Commission for the Promotion of Public-Private Partnership (Coalianza), Wilfredo Cerrato said that a Spanish company will carry out the design of the bulk terminal at Puerto Cortés. Subsequently, a tender will be created for its construction and supervision.
The company Asociación para el Desarrollo Integral (Association for Integral Development) has 5 months to deliver the environmental impact study and design for the project to be developed in Panama.
The study will determine whether or not it is feasibile to build a new embarkation port and multimodal distribution center in the district of Aguadulce.
