From yesterday until Friday, port representatives from the isthmus will be gathered, assessing the progress in port modernization.
In the beginning of the meeting Rolando Diaz, manager of concessions for the Autonomous Port Executive Committee of El Salvador, referred to the completion of la Unión Centroamericana Port in December 2008, with an investment of $183 million.
Shell Bitumen, a division of the petroleum giant Shell, has inaugurated the region's first factory for modified asphalt in Puerto Cortés, Honduras, with an investment of 1.5 million dollars.
The material it produces is used in the construction and maintenance of inter-urban highways which carry heavy traffic loads.
Héctor Samayhora, general manager of Shell Bitumen, says the product is more durable and safer than other materials.
