In this new commercial reality, market opportunities are identified for hygiene and personal care items that are manufactured with natural ingredients and produced with environmentally friendly materials.
Products that provide relief to the skin, given the consequences caused by Covid-19 from constant hand washing and mask use, are other items that consumers value today.
During 2018, the value of diapers and similar items imported into the region totaled $285 million, 3% more than in 2017.

Honduras, main buyer
Last year, the main buyer of diapers and similar items in Central America was Honduras, with $60 million, followed by Panama, with $59 million, El Salvador, with $47 million, Guatemala, with $44 million, Nicaragua, with $39 million and Costa Rica, with $37 million.
From January to September 2018, the value of imported diapers and similar items in the region totaled $143 million, and purchases from companies in Mexico grew 11% over the same period in 2017.

Through a regional association, companies dedicated to the cosmetics and personal care business in Central America work together to help simplify procedures and improve health regulations.
The aim of the association, composed of guilds from several countries in the region and manufacturing and importing companies, is to support government institutions in the creation of standards and rules that facilitate trade and improve conditions of access to markets, both regionally and to the external market.
In the first six months of the year, Central American companies imported $239 million in beauty and personal care items, and imports from Colombia increased 5% over the same period in 2017.

Between 2016 and 2017, purchases of diapers and similar items made by the Central American countries in Mexico grew by 5%, going from $120 million to $126 million.

Between 2015 and 2016, the value of diapers and similar items imported into countries in the region fell slightly, going from $289 million in 2015 to $285 million in 2016.
