From January to September 2020, motorcycle imports in the region totaled $237 million, 11% less than in the same period of 2019, a drop explained by the behavior of purchases from El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and Costa Rica.

During the first two months of 2020, motorcycle imports into the markets of El Salvador and Panama contracted the most, with year-on-year falls of 38% and 36%, respectively.

Because the cost of electric bicycles is considerably lower than other types of electric vehicles, the number of units imported into the country has increased exponentially in recent years.
According to figures from the Ministry of Finance, during 2019 3,585 electric bicycles and motorcycles were imported into the country, 93% more than the 1,857 reported in 2018.
In the first nine months of 2018, companies in the region imported motorcycles for $301 million, 4% more than the amount reported in the same period of 2017.

In 2016, $170 million worth of motorcycles were imported, 9% more than in 2015, and the value imported from China and India grew by 6% and 9%, respectively.

The union of importers of motorcycles has reported that in 2016 sales grew by 19%, lower than the 23% increase achieved in the previous year.
Figures from the Association of Motorcycle Importers (Aima) indicate that last year 67,736 units were sold, 19% more than what was sold in 2015, but lower than the 75,000 units that the union planned for this year.
Between January and June 2016 almost 39,000 new motorcycles were registered in the country, which is 9% more than in the same period in 2015.
